Bug#900792: xinit and startx both return 0 even if the client returns non-zero

2018-06-04 Thread Daniel Kahn Gillmor
Package: xinit
Version: 1.4.0-1
Severity: normal

I'm working on test suites which are intended to operate within an
ephemeral X11 server. Consider the following two commands (:34 is
chosen randomly, and can be ignored):

xinit /bin/true -- /usr/bin/Xvfb :34

xinit /bin/false -- /usr/bin/Xvfb :34

Both of the above commands return 0 -- the return value of the command
run is ignored.

And it's not just xinit: the same is true for startx.

I think startx and xinit should only return 0 if both the client and
the server return 0. If the server starts and runs successfully, then
the return code of xinit/startx should be the return code of the
client.

Bug#900791: xserver-xorg-input-mouse: FTBFS with newer xserver

2018-06-04 Thread Samuel Thibault
Package: xserver-xorg-input-mouse
Version: 1:1.9.2-1+b1
Severity: serious
Justification: FTBFS
Tags: upstream fixed-upstream patch

Hello,

With the newer xserver, xserver-xorg-input-mouse doesn't build any more:

../../src/mouse.c:824:5: error: implicit declaration of function 'xf86GetOS';
did you mean 'xf86SetDpi'? [-Werror=implicit-function-declaration]
 xf86GetOS(&osname, NULL, NULL, NULL);

That got removed from xserver.

Upstream has 3c8f243b750a92d5837a449d344ff884dbd02b57 ("Adapt to removal
of xf86GetOS"), attached here, which can at least be cherry-picked.

Justification: breaks unrelated software

Dear Maintainer,

Currently, with the mesa driver and xorg 1.20, plasmashell randomly freezes
every few seconds.

The bug has been reported as:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=900352
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=900149

but it is actually a bug in mesa. It is fixed by this upstream commit:
https://cgit.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/commit/?id=fe2edb25dd5628c395a65b60998f11e839d2b458

I just applied said patch locally and rebuilt mesa, and I can confirm that it
fixes the issue.

Best regards,

Vivia Nikolaidou

Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.7+19
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,
after upgrade xserver packages to version sid/1.20, plasmashell freeze

As workaround return to version testing/1.90 and prevent packages upgrade.

Thanks.

Package: plasma-workspace
Version: 4:5.12.5-1
Severity: important

The plasmashell component freezes every few (5-15?) times the system-key menu
appears. I have to kill and restart plasmashell. There has been nothing
obvious in the output (but I have not yet captured the output to send).
