Works like a dream. Undocking and re-docking again worked at least once,
but it's not totally reliable. On the other hand it's much better than a
crash. :)

Bug#900880: Blank screen when rotating with xrandr

2018-06-07 Thread Deni Bertovic

I'm experiencing the same issue on my Thinkpad X1 (gen 4) model with sid.

Switching to 2 external monitors started not working correctly in the
sense that
the one monitor that was rotated (--rotate left) did not work (blank
screen).

The one that was positioned normally worked fine.

I could also switch back to the laptop's monitor but when I put the laptop
to sleep and later woke it up it's monitor did not turn on.

These seem to possibly unrelated issues, I don't know.

The sleep issue is related to the kernel version 4.16.0-2 and the intel
i915 driver.

Downgrading to version 4.15.0-3 solved this issue.

The issue with the rotated monitor seems directly related to this. And I
followed the
suggestion above about pinning  "xserver-*" but I had to add the
following pins as well so it

didn't remove gnome:

$ cat /etc/apt/preferences.d/xrandr-xserver-issues

Package: xserver-*
Pin: origin "snapshot.debian.org"
Pin-Priority: 2001

The version of xserver-common is 2:1.19.5-1 and xserver-xorg-video-intel
2:2.99.917+git20171229-1.

In the user's home folder i found a file named core.
gdb -c core says about xwayland.

If I do a console login and exec startx all is working fine.

If I switch to Xorg (WaylandEnable=false) all is working fine also by login
graphical interface.

Greetings.

Please explain what's going on (i.e. answer those questions), otherwise there's

Some common failure modes of library packaging (particularly around
dependencies or transitions) result in inability to link dependent
binaries to the library. To catch mistakes before they become
release-critical, it's useful to have an autopkgtest that checks that
the library can work at all, even if it's a library that is awkward or
impossible to test more thoroughly.

I attach a simple autopkgtest that checks that libinput-dev can be
initialized and uninitialized, loosely based on one that I added to dbus.

I included a test for static linking, but libinput-dev doesn't seem to
contain libinput.a, so I've assumed that linking to it statically is
unsupported and left that part of the test commented out.

Note that I don't really know this library, so if I'm using it
incorrectly or in ways that are not what its upstream developers would
recommend, the test might need adjusting. It seems to work locally though.

If libinput_path_create_context() cannot legitimately fail (even in a
chroot or container running as an unprivileged user) then you might
want to make the test abort() if that call fails.

Thanks,
smcv

Subject: [PATCH] Add a simple compile/link/execute smoke-test for libinput-dev

This verifies that it is possible to link to libinput, and would have
detected #893067.
