Bug#368165: man-db in cron.daily returns errors and warnings

After yesterday's update, the list of bad links has decreased by 2/3.
There are still a few left.

Definitely the postinst. I was able to get dpkg-reconfigure to update
xorg.conf (in 1:7.0.22) by removing xorg.conf and doing a couple of
other things. You may have to also perform the following:

  sudo sh -c "readlink /etc/X11/X | md5sum > /var/lib/x11/X.md5sum"

See #374578.

You will probably also have to perform the following:

  sudo vi /var/lib/dpkg/info/xserver-xorg.postinst
  # Comment out the following line as well as matching else and endif.
  #   if [ -z "$UPGRADE" ] || dpkg --compare-versions "$2" le "1:7.0.14"; then

Bug#337611: xserver-xorg: This may be related to a locally-modified xorg.conf

That's not the correct fix, I think.

That's the difference. Non-interactive upgrades shouldn't ask questions
in the first place if no new questions have been added.

Otherwise, the questions should be asked; however, the big difference is
that xserver-xorg should observe dpkg's --force-confdef (as well as
--force-confold and --force-confnew) flags so that the new configuration
file will be written--somewhere--so the user can compare it with the old
one in order to accept the changes or not.

See #374583.

The standard thing to do is to observe dpkg's default behavior, which
depending on how you have configured dpkg is to save the new
configuration in xorg.conf.dpkg-new or the old one in xorg.conf.dpkg-old

See #374583.

Fathi Boudra <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:

> * if i remove my xorg.conf and run dpkg-reconfigure, no new file created

In addition to removing xorg.conf, in 1:7.0.22, you may have to also
perform the following:

  sudo sh -c "readlink /etc/X11/X | md5sum > /var/lib/x11/X.md5sum"

See #374578.

You will probably also have to perform the following:

  sudo vi /var/lib/dpkg/info/xserver-xorg.postinst
  # Comment out the following line as well as matching else and endif.
  #   if [ -z "$UPGRADE" ] || dpkg --compare-versions "$2" le "1:7.0.14"; then

I'm now reading those bug reports. Guess I'll--ulp--give it a go.

Bug#374052: xorg: Please package X11R7.1

2006-06-16 Thread Bill Wohler
Package: xorg
Severity: wishlist

Please package 7.1.

I've heard that this release contains changes to the ATI driver which
fixes the lockups that have been reported by users of the ATI cards.
I've got xserver-xorg 6.8 and an increasing lot of friends on hold until
then.

p.s. Any timeframe on when it will be packaged? I suppose it will take
more than the minimum 10 days to get into etch, eh? ;-)
