Package: xserver-xorg-video-ati Version: 1:6.5.7.3-3 Severity: important Hello After upgrading and solving the already known bugs of an empty "which X" by linking it to /usr/X11R6/bin/Xorg, I now end up with a crashing X server. Even in "X -probeonly", the server starts up and the screen gets black. I can still hear an mp3 that I started on console, continuing playing so the system itself is still running. alt-tab not working in text input areas but everywhere else since last upgrade
Hello Since I migrated to xserver-xorg and did the last apt-get upgrade the window cycling alt-tab key combination does no longer work when the focus is given to xterm, gnome-terminal or the text input areas of gaim and sylpheed-claws. It does work in all other tested applications like madman, xmms and firefox. FWIW, I'm using the sawfish window manager and start up via xdm. My ~/.xsession modifies just "keycode 0x6D = slash" via xmodmap. The keyboard setting in /etc/X11/xorg.conf is the autogenerated: Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Generic Keyboard" Driver "keyboard" Option "CoreKeyboard" Option "XkbRules" "xorg" Option "XkbModel" "pc105" Option "XkbLayout" "de" Option "XkbVariant""nodeadkeys" EndSection Please tell me at least which package you think I should report a bug against, sawfish, xserver-xorg or xlibs..? :-) My thanks, -christian- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". TrueTypes suddenly aren't displayed but still shown in xlsfonts
Hello xlsfonts and several other apps show correctly my msttfcorefonts font: -monotype-arial-medium-r-normal--0-0-0-0-p-0-iso8859-15 Sadly no app can actually use it. gtkfontsel e.g. says "The selected font is not available". xlsfont and some apps say: "Warning: Missing charsets in String to FontSet conversation" and "Warning: Unable to load any usable fontset". How to get my ttf back? I tried to completely reinstall all X11 and font packages and even upgraded from sid to the 4.2beta debs without any changes. I have of course loaded the "freetype" and no "xtt" module. I'm using the nvidia display driver for my Geforce2 if that matters. Already upgraded this thing, too. But it worked long time before. The failure started at about 1 week ago after I restarted my computers after week or so uptime and several apt-get -u upgrades... A hint could be that I find nothing about freetype in xdpyinfo although it loads fine according to /var/log/XFree86.0.log. For which string should I look in xdpyinfo? bye, -christian-

strange kde init.d behaviour
Hello Today I upgraded to the most recent Debian unstable and KDE started to behave very strange. When I disabled the last line in /etc/runlevel.conf (/etc/init.d/kdm) and start it by hand with "/etc/init.d/kdm start" after logging in everything works. When starting kdm by runlevel.conf it starts X but in a much higher resolution which isn't even in /etc/X11/XF86Config and sadly with non-working keyboard and mouse. Can anybody imagine why? Or what could X lead to start so strange even without working keyboard (I can't turn numlock on/off) any ideas appreciated, -christian-

again troubles with Euro sign
Hi This time I have successfully konfigured MS-Truetype fonts with KDE and anti-aliasing etc pp (via X 4.0.3 and XftConfig) and can now select iso-8859-15 fonts for all my KDE apps. I can show the character 0xA4 (according to man iso-8859-15) if I insert it into a hex file with khexedit so the fonts are right but I cannot enter it. I tried my .xmodmap with both, "currency" and "EuroSign" on the altgr-e position but only "currency" give lets me enter a char at all. It gives the right 0xa4 when editing a text file on xterm but all KDE apps just show the currency sign but won't show an euro sign when using "EuroSign" either. Any ideas? bye, -christian- -- Real men don't take backups. They put their source on a public FTP-server and let the world mirror it. -- Linus Torvalds

The upstrem author cannot reproduce this and it seems to me, after browsing the web for this error message, that it's maybe bad coding style but not an error in fwbuilder but something more generic to GTK: - # export LC_ALL=C; export LANG=C; export LANGUAGE=C; fwbuilder Gdk-WARNING **: Missing charsets in FontSet creation Gdk-WARNING **: ISO8859-1 GnomeUI-ERROR **: file gnome-icon-item.c: line 304 (get_default_font): assertion failed: (default_font != NULL) aborting... I tried to create some /etc/gtk/* files that should match my normal de_DE / [EMAIL PROTECTED] locales but this, too didn't work. I use xserver-free86 4.0.3-3 and normally the Windows truetype fonts with the Anti-Aliasing configuration and /etc/X11/XftConfig. strace/ltrace/ddd and gdm all didn't show something usable, also gdb's output suggest that the problem is in libgnomeui32. I'm using the latest testing/unstable. Any ideas? bye, -christian- -- Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months.

Re: X colors broken after upgrade
Hi This features is broken on my screen: xeniac:/etc/X11/app-defaults# xterm xterm: Cannot allocate color rgbi:0.2/0.2/1.0 This error appears when it first tries to e.g. list a directory where I use blue color for. When I exchange this string by "blue" it works. Maybe you should fine tune the rgb values so that they work on 16bit screens, too. Assuming that every user has 24bit nowadays or that every user first must adjust this config file before the output is reasonable is not good. Feel free to mail me if you need someone to test. Hi I've just upgraded everything and now my xterm colors are broken. vim, mutt and mc and even remote apps that I run via ssh changed colors so I doubt that it's an application problem. Is there a known bug in xbase or xterm? bye, -christian- -- Save the forests, eat more beavers!

Is *this* adjustable via Modlines?
Hello I have a big problem: I've just bought a 22" Belinea 108080 monitor for about $900 but it does not work as I expected it to. I have a normal 1600x1200 modeline and everything seems to look good at the first glance, but when I switch to small fonts I see that they are rendered unreadable - the reason ist that (when pressing the nose on the screen) I can see that every pixel consists of two half-bright horizontal dots on my screen with a fine black emptyness between them - therefore letting me see horizontal lines good but all thin vertical lines only half-bright. Does anybody know how to fix this? Ideally I would only have to move the whole screen about half a pixel horizontally but how can I tell that my monitor? Hope for help bye, -christian- -- This is a test of the Emergency Broadcast System. If this had been an actual emergency, do you really think we'd stick around to tell you?

Strange ALT-sth behaviour in sawfish-gnome-X
Hello Maybe someone else experienced that too: I've used to have ALT-F1 to ALT-F4 for switching between my 4 virtual screens on 1 virtual desktop in sawfish-gnome (everything latest woody). After one upgrade last week whenever pressing ALT, the border of the current window gets dark (as if unfocussed) and nothing more happens. It gets focussed again when releaseing ALT. The sawfish config tool still recognises ALT-F1 correctly as "M-F1". Strangely after working some hours and intuitively pressing this keys I then realize that it suddenly started to work until I next time restart it... but I cannot find any reason for this! What can I do? What debugging info would be helpfull? bye, -christian- -- Save the forests, eat more beavers!

TrueType fonts without xfstt
Hi I still could not figure out how to enable my TrueType fonts (borrowed from M$ Windows) in the new X 4.0.1 (0phase2v8) without using the xfstt daemon. People told me that including the freetype and/or xtt module in the XF86Config should be enough but when just including freetype it says that there's no font.dir in the directory and mkfontdir doesn't like to create one, and when using xtt it does not complain but gtkfontsel (and others) still do not show up my fonts. I also cannot find any real documentation for these both modules. Where is it? Are there any additional options that I can include in my XF86Config? Would upgrading to the very last phase12(?) be sufficient? thanks, -christian- -- Real Users never know what they want, but they always know when your program doesn't deliver it.

(I don't know who creates this dir in /tmp) bye, -christian- -- Real programmers confuse Christmas and Halloween, because Dec 25 = Oct 31 !!! --- Linux - the choice of the GNU generation.
