Bug#905542: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: segmentation fault on startup every time
Thanks, I can confirm that rolling back to xserver-xorg-core 2:1.19.6-1 fixes the problem for me for now. Bug#905542: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: segmentation fault on startup every time
Package: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau Version: 1:1.0.15-3 Severity: important I did an "apt-get upgrade" today that installed new xserver-xorg-{core,nouveau} packages. Bug#903426: libdrm-nouveau2: "[TTM] Buffer eviction failed" followed by system hanging
Package: libdrm-nouveau2 Version: 2.4.92-1 Severity: important This has been happening frequently, but not repeatably so far. It seems to be triggered by something Chromium is doing when I have lots of browser windows and tabs open. I've included the portion of syslog when this occurs. Once it does happen, the system soon becomes unusable: I can't use X, and if I ssh in from another machine, I can't kill X; all I can do is reboot. Bug#797266: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: freeze triggered by chromium
Package: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau Version: 1:1.0.11-1+b1 Severity: normal When I use chromium as my default browser, my system eventually freezes, with the error messages listed below. I'm currently using chromium 44.0.2403.157-1 from sid, but the version from testing causes the same problem. It doesn't happen immediately, but typically within a day of using multiple windows each with multiple tabs. I've never seen any other application trigger it, in particular the same kind of session using iceweasel seems to work OK. So this may be a bug in chromium, but the nouveau driver shouldn't lock up due to misbehaving clients either. Package: xutils-dev Version: 1:7.1.ds-2 Severity: normal $ cleanlinks Removing empty directories ... find: warning: you have specified the -depth option after a non-option argument -type, but options are not positional (-depth affects tests specified before it as well as those specified after it). workaround for NeoMagic X server looping
In both 4.0.3 and 4.1.0, the X server would spin using 100% of the CPU on my IBM ThinkPad 600 (NM 2160). Turning on Option NoAccel stopped this, but performance was unacceptable. None of the various xaaNo* options I found in the archives seemed to help. Finally, I found that using Option ShadowFB works well. The man page for shadowfb(4) seems to be missing, so I have no idea why this works. (I guess it's the general principle that adding a layer of indirection can fix any problem :-) Hope this is useful to others.
