Bug#494441: xserver-xorg-video-intel: X server crashes with "lockup" on G45 (X4500HD) chipset
I upgraded to version 2:2.4.2-1 today, and the problem is not yet resolved. I cannot get the driver to run at 1080p/i at all. It tries to run at 1920x540 instead, and the display can't handle that. No amount of manual modeline settings in the config file seem to make any difference. I can't seem to override the ddc settings. When running at 720p, the display does operate for about 10 - 15 seconds, then crashes. > I just uploaded 2.4.1 to experimental. Let me know if you have better > luck with that version; if it's still broken, we'll have to report it > upstream. I'm not getting a lockup with this version, but I don't have a usable display either. It's insisting on picking a display resolution which is incompatible with the display (a 1080p LCD TV). The TV will just display "Unsupported Video Format" when X starts. I was sometimes getting this with the old version, too. (Sorry, I haven't kept precise notes about what settings lead to which behaviors.) My old nvidia card had no trouble driving this display at 1920x1080 progressive. Also, with the other X packages from experimental which are required to install this one, I sometimes lose keyboard support. (but LIRC input still works...) I've tried downgrading back to the version in sid, but I'm no longer able to get it to work at all with sid's driver. With 2%3a2.3.2-2+lenny2_i386 I've managed to completely lock up the whole machine a few times. Other times, it just fails to start. See the log following. Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel Version: 2:2.4.0-1 Severity: important When using the 2.4.0-1 package from experimental with onboard video on a G45 motherboard, the X server simply locks up after about 5 seconds. This happens consistently.
