Re: wacom driver patches
Ron wrote: Hi, I've packaged and uploaded a wacom-tools package (still NEW in incoming) containing some diagnostic tools and automation for rolling a kernel modules package from the source being developed at linuxwacom.sf.net. They also have patches for wacom_drv.o which appear to be useful and which I would like to somehow make available to Debian users. The ideal for me of course, is that I convince you to accept them into the Debian packages and work them that way toward the appropriate upstream. I'd be happy to filter and massage them to suit our packages if need be. Otherwise I'm not sure how else would be a good way to distribute this as an 'external' module to our X packages. If there is an established procedure, I'll be happy to fall into step, if not, what is the best thing to do here? I'm not (yet) on this list, so please cc for now, thanks, Ron My skimming over tablet-PC site lately, leaves the impression that this driver/tools are a must to get any support of this kind of hardware. I'm interressed for this to get in, because I might need it soon. Any comment from the XTF people ? @+, Fab

Re: xfree planned for sarge
Hi all, No answer after 3 days, let's reword it. To my knowledge, the following Intel chipsets (830M/845G/852GM/855GM/865G) are unsupported in Xfree86-4.2.1 hence unsupported in the current sid packages. They are supported in Xfree-4.3 (cf. [1] or [2] ). From [1] "Does XFree86 4.2.0 or 4.2.1 support the 845G?" a backport to Xfree-4.2.1 seems difficult. As a sysadmin having hundred of desktops with such chipsets, I'm interrested to know the intended support of those for sarge (for now we are using an unsupported backport of XFree86-4.3.0 to woody to get those desktop running, thanks to V. Golam for taking care of that). In my previous mail, my babbling about Xfree86-4.3.0 soon in sid came from the sheer number of svn commit in this branch and the comment about "time constraints.." on [3]. Out of curiosity, I would appreciate if someone could summup the current state of xfree86_4.3.0-0pre1v5 packages and what does prevent them to enter sid (appart from left over from the compromision). A bit more on the Intel chipsets. AFAK all professionnal desktops from Dell (optiplex series) ship with those chipsets (i845G since 09/2002, i865G since 09/2003). Surfing a bit, that's what I got : The current HP/Compaq business desktops are also shipped with one of these chipsets [4]. IBM desktops seems to have an "Intel Extreme Graphics 2" card. From [5] we are back to known univers. Same chipsets at gateway [6]. re : Another one: parse error reading X server string `intelfb'
... ... > I'm stumped, any ideas? Yep, - First check your BIOS and set it for more than 1Mo of AGP-RAM. - You might get some results with a recent kernel, intel's drivers (from http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/intel845g/) and framebuffer (in septembre, we were able to get X running with such a setup. But swapping to text console was crashing it, and on the whole the config was pretty unstable). - As explain at http://www.xfree86.org/~dawes/845driver.html. I845G chipset is only supported with Xfree86-4.3... and zgreping /usr/share/doc/xserver-xfree86/changelog.Debian.gz on "intel" and "i8" does confirm it (debian unstable box with xserver-xfree86-4.2.1-14). To get Xfree-4.3 on your sarge box, you can either point apt to the current packages in experimental, or find a backport to sarge/testing, or backporting it your self. @+, Fab
potato(r2) + xfree3.6 + i810 + krnel-2.2.18
Hi all, I didn't get much answer to my previous mail here, so 2nd try: In short, I installed potato(r2) on a Dell optiplex gx100 with an i810 card and I had to revert to kernel 2.2.17 with the agpgart module from the xfree-3.3.6 sources to get it working. Did any of you get the same pb ? I found a mail from B. Robinson (google search) stating that agpgart in 2.2.18 and xfree3.3.6 don't get along very well. Does it mean that actually we can't get potato with xfree-3.3.6 and a kernel-2.2.x (x >=18) running ?? Xfree-3.3.6 + i810 + krnl-2.2.18 : precisions wanted
Hi all, I spent my friday afternoon, installing potato (r2) on a dell optiplex gx100 with a i810 on board card. Everything went fluently except the configuration of xfree. We already avec a buch of boxes here with i810 cards under debian and Mandrake and until now I didn't have much trouble. After browsing changelogs, searching mailing lists and using google quite intensively I found an answer from Brenden to a similar problem. From memory : - the implementation of the agpgart module in kernel-2.2.18 is not compatible with xfree-3.3.6 and the solution proposed where : - downgrade to 2.2.17 - use C. Botha unofficial xfree-4.0 packages for potato. First remark : - I would be nice if this information where more accessible : On the debian-x page under the agpgart section for exemple. Better would be in the documentation comming with the xserver-svga package. I did try the unofficial xfree4 packages (deb http://people.debian.org/~cpbotha/ xf401_potato/i386/) but i seems the dependence tree is broken : "xserver-xfree86: Depends: xserver-common (>4.0) but 3.3.6-11potato15 is to be installed" So i did revert to kernel 2.2.17 and everything is ok. Now if i didn't misunderstood anything, we can't have kernel-2.2.18 + xfree-3.3.6 + i810 cards actualy on potato. If that's the case, it's an RC bug in the minute, 'cause potato r2 is shipped with kernel-2.2.18PRExx. otherwise I would appreciate if so could explain what I did wrong and what is the pb with xfree-3.3.6 and krnel-2.2.18.
