Bug#565773: [xserver-xorg-video-intel] Segfaults when trying to lock screen
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel Version: 2:2.9.1-2 Severity: normal --- Please enter the report below this line. --- The xserver crashes with a segmentation fault when trying to use the lock screen functionality of gnome. This only occurs when using an external monitor and the internal notebook display is turned off. It doesn't happen when using the internal notebook display or both displays simultaneously. I've attached an Xorg.log which contains a stack trace of the crash. I have turned off KMS (by adding i915 modeset=0 to my /etc/modules) because the internal display of my Samsung X20 XVM 1730 IV notebook otherwise stops working when loading the i915 module manually or during xserver startup (and I didn't have the time to figure out whether this can be fixed using some kernel parameters). --- System information. --- Architecture: i386 Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-trunk-686 Debian Release: squeeze/sid 1001 unstable www.debian-multimedia.org 1001 unstable ftp.debian.org 1 experimental ftp.debian.org --- Package information. --- Depends (Version) | Installed -+-=== libc6 (= 2.3.6-6~) | 2.10.2-5 libdrm-intel1 (= 2.4.11) | 2.4.15-1 libdrm2 (= 2.4.3) | 2.4.15-1 libpciaccess0 (= 0.8.0+git20071002) | 0.10.9-1 libxext6 (= 0) | 2:1.1.1-2 libxfixes3 (= 1:4.0.1) | 1:4.0.4-1 libxv1 | 2:1.0.5-1 libxvmc1 | 2:1.0.5-1 xserver-xorg-core (= 2:1.6.99.900) | 2:1.7.4-1 Package's Recommends field is empty. Bug#318576: *-dev: Please include lib* descriptions in lib*-dev / lib*-dbg ditto
Package: xorg-x11 Severity: minor The X development packages currently have incomplete descriptions such as: Header files and a static version of the SM library are provided by this package. . See the libsm6 package for further information. While this seems to be an increasingly common practice, it appears to be against policy and even if there is an exception for this, it is certainly user-unfriendly. Rationale: Most package selection front ends, including aptitude, only display the description for the current package. References to the descriptions of other packages thus require a rather large number of keystrokes to read (compared to 0 (zero) for the description of the package itself). I respectfully suggest that the phrase see the package for further information in these cases be replaced by the actual description of that package. It may be preferable for this to be done by a script, so future changes to the description of are automagically reflected in the -dev package.
