Bug#478082: Xserver-xorg refuses to adjust to proper resolution and use Nvidia 6100 series GPU
Package: xserver-xorg Version: 1:7.3+10ubuntu10 Severity: important --- Please enter the report below this line. --- Xserver-xorg refuses to adjust to proper resolution and use Nvidia 6100 series GPU. Old version of Ubuntu 7.10 would recognise that I needed the Nvidia proprietary driver on a fresh install and would work. Latest version on 8.04, I have to go into System -> Hardware Drivers, it then recognises I need to install a proprietary drivers and says I need to reboot to have the changes take effect. I reboot and I am still stuck with 800x600 resolution at 56 hz. --- System information. --- Architecture: i386 Kernel: Linux 2.6.24-16-generic Debian Release: lenny/sid 500 hardy-updates archive.ubuntu.com 500 hardy-security archive.ubuntu.com 500 hardy archive.ubuntu.com --- Package information. --- Depends (Version) | Installed ===-+-= debconf (>= 0.5) | 1.5.20 OR debconf-2.0 | mdetect | 0.5.2.1ubuntu4 x11-xkb-utils | 7.3+1 xkb-data | 1.1~cvs.20080104.1-1ubuntu6 OR xkb-data-legacy | xserver-xorg-core (>= 2:1.4-3) | 2:1.4.1~git20080131-1ubuntu9 xserver-xorg-input-all | 1:7.3+10ubuntu10 OR xserver-xorg-input-2 | xserver-xorg-video-all | 1:7.3+10ubuntu10 OR xserver-xorg-video-2 | -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Package: xserver-xorg-video-nv Version: 1:1.2.0-3 Followup-For: Bug #394803 mouse works when I boot up and log in. If I try to log out mouse disappears permanently! The only way I can get it back is to either reboot the system or use the VESA driver. Hoping that this issue can be solved as it is rather impleasant. S3 Trio 64V+ (86C765) > 8 bit colour
I have been trying to configure my PC with greater than 8 > bit colour. If I use a resolution of greater than 640 x 480, I get a ghost image of objects displayed on the screen. The screen also flickers the ghost images a lot. I have tried different monitors. We also have an earlier version of the IBM PC 350 with a std. Trio 64 chip set which also experiences that same problem. When used previously with SuSe 6.4, I believe the PC worked with 16 bit colour at 800 x 600. Has anyone else experienced similar problems? I put the Trio64V+ bug lines in the file, which I think has allowed it to use 16 bit colour in 640 x 480 mode. P.S. I don't currently subscribe to this list so make sure you CC me or send a message directly to me. Thank you! - ..... John Kerr Anderson `:::' ... ..
