Bug#823670: xserver-xorg-input-all: Tap to click not working after upgrade

2016-05-07 Thread Leandro Lucarella
Package: xserver-xorg-input-all
Version: 1:7.7+15
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

After upgrading a bunch of packages (log attached) and restarting my
sessions, I notice the mouse pad click via tapping stopped working. I'm
using GNOME3 flashback mode and the option is enabled in the control
center. Also, the whole mouse pad became much more sensitive (in an
uncomfortable way).

I'm not sure which package(s) is(are) responsible for this, but this one
was the only one I found related to input, so I'm reporting it here.
Sorry if it belongs somewhere else.

I'm still unable to get a backtrace :S

When I run Xorg with -core, I get a black screen, and nothing happens, I have
to kill the server through Ctrl-Alt-Backspace or switch to the console and
press Ctrl-C (I'm running it through startx -- -core -So verbose). I can't do
the steps to reproduce the problem when running Xorg with -core.

I installed those packages and read that page but I can't figure out how
to get a core dump to get a real backtrace, installing those packages
don't get me a nice backtrace in the Xorg log file. I tried to add
ulimit -c unlimited to /etc/X11/xinit/xserverrc but did't help (I even
tried to call gdb from there but it seems that neither startx or gdm
uses that file).

Any help on how to get a proper backtrace would be appreciated.

About the page, should I tag this bug as upstream?

Thank you.

PS: I noticed that I can't reproduce the bug if I start Xorg using
startx -e roxterm (instead of opening the whole GNOME session),
I don't if that is useful information or not.

This crash happened when I was using (a just updated Iceweasel 5.0) but
I wasn't doing anything in particular, I was just reading a page and
moving the mouse (but not pressing any buttons).

OK, I'll do that. Last time it happened I was just writing in a roxterm.
But, of course, I can't reproduce it by just writing to in a roxterm :)

Lately I've got some problems with intel 915 DRM.

First I got this error in my Xorg.log a while ago:
(WW) intel(0): i830_uxa_prepare_access: gtt bo map failed: Input/output error

And these errors in my kernel log:

Xorg exits and fails to restart without rebooting the box.

Then, just now, I got this error in Xorg.log:

even a

But this time I was able to restart Xorg without problems.

Note that both times plugin-container crashed a few seconds after the
error messages, here is a similar (but not exactly the same) Linux bug
report where after an i915 error there is a process segfaulting (which
says is a userspace bug):
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=21732

Seeing the attached modprobe configuration files, I just realized
I enabled the modeset because a GPU hung error in the past. I did tried
using modeset=0 though (I will, but since I can't reproduce this problem
at will, it would take some time to see if it produces any effects).

This started happening recently, first problem was on march 24th and
I upgraded some xorg packages on march 20th:
xserver-xorg-core 2:1.7.7-11 -> 2:1.7.7-13
xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.13.0-5 -> 2:2.13.0-6

On march 16th I switched from kernel 2.6.37 to 2.6.38, and on march
24th, after the first crash, I upgraded to 2.6.38.1, just in case this
provide some useful information.
