However, I still get ˇS when trying to write Scaron (see attached xev.log). What's even more strange that apparently X are able to decipher that Scaron is (c5 a0) Š: KeyPress event, serial 31, synthetic NO, window 0x201, root 0x4c, subw 0x0, time 162804, (508,357), root:(512,384), state 0x1, keycode 0 (keysym 0x1000160, U0160), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 bytes: XmbLookupString gives 2 bytes: (c5 a0) Š XFilterEvent returns: False but still I get ˇS. Is it problem of Qt-based applications or some other technology, which is not used by Gnome and other non-KDE applications (firefox has no problems with it)? Actually, it is not that simple OOo (albeit with KDE skin) reacts even more strange -- just writes plain S and caron is silently omitted. Any ideas? Bug#345436: Thanks but not yet
Thanks editing /etc/X11/xkb/symbols/level3 kind of helped. This is my InputDevice section in /etc/X11/xorg.conf (one line broken for this message): Section InputDevice Identifier Generic Keyboard # Driver keyboard Driver kbd Option CoreKeyboard Option XkbRules xorg Option XkbModel pc104 # Option XkbLayout us # Option XkbModel inspiron Option XkbLayout cz,us Option XkbOptions \ compose:caps,grp:shifts_toggle,grp:led_scroll Option XkbVariantqwerty EndSection And this coming from xprop (again, line broken for this message): chelcicky:~$ xprop -root | grep XKB _XKB_RULES_NAMES(STRING) = xorg, inspiron, cz_qwerty,us, \ , compose:caps,grp:shifts_toggle,grp:led_scroll chelcicky:~$ When I have fixed level3 I got my Win keys working in KDE, but KDE applications still cannot write Czech characters using deadkey (non-KDE like firefox and xterm are fine). Nothing interesting in any log. Also I made your change, XkbVariant ceased to work, so I had to download explicitly cz_qwerty keyboard (it DID work before I made the change to level3 file). Any idea? Bug#165479: xserver-xfree86: Mysterious patterns on Trident display with LCD notebook.
Package: xserver-xfree86 Version: 4.1.0-17 Severity: normal -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hi, I have played on my GNU/Debian (testing) with dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 and the result is that on the same computer, with same version of OS, X, and KDE, kghostview suddenly begun to complain, that extension SHAPE is missing on my display (it worked before). However, otherwise everything seems to work with exceptions described below I have immersed myself more into XF86Config-4 for the solution, but I did not find anything concerning shape extension. On the other hand I found some really disturbing lines like in /var/log/XFree*.log (see attached files; of course, breaking into multiple lines was done by hand in MUA): (WW) TRIDENT(0): Failed to set up write-combining range \ (0xf500,0x40) What does it mean, and what should I do with that (l. 405)? Other lines which make me worry are (l. 484-6): Could not init font path element /usr/lib/X11/fonts/TrueType, \ removing from list! Could not init font path element /usr/lib/X11/fonts/Type1, \ removing from list! Could not init font path element /usr/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo, \ removing from list! I have checked the abovementioned paths and everything seems to be all right (all world-readable and -executable, everywhere fresh fonts.* files with at least to my level of understanding sensible content).
