Bug#556548: is this still a problem?

Oops, I don't have this TV anymore. And it works with my current TV. So I
cannot comment any further, sorry.

 Hi Nicolas,

 Andres Cimmarusti acimmaru...@gmail.com (01/04/2010):
  Hi,

I was getting similar problems with a laptop I have, but it was
resolved a couple of radeon updates back.

Is this still a problem with the newer radeon driver from squeeze
(also newer kernel and mesa)? (make sure you have libdrm-radeon1,
firmware-linux-nonfree and firmware-linux installed). If problem
persists, could you try getting the even newer one from sid (you'll
need a newer kernel as well, either 2.6.32-10 from sid or 2.6.33
from experimental). For this you will need to enable Kernel
modesetting. add *radeon* to /etc/modules and put *options radeon
  modeset=1* in /etc/modprobe.d/radeon-kms.conf (you'll probably need
  to create the file).

What Desktop environment are you running? If gnome I recommend you
don't do your dual screen setup in your xorg.conf file. If you
specify enough virtual size as you've done, gnome should do it
automatically for you (this is what happens with a couple of laptops
I have). You can also simply use xrandr. Simply put the right
command in a file in /etc/X11/Xsession.d/ (I assume this would work
  perfectly in KDE and others).

  This is a valuable resource:
  http://www.jejik.com/articles/2008/10/setting_up_dual_monitors_system-wid
  e_with_xrandr_on_debian_lenny/

It would be nice to let us know how it goes with squeeze's or sid's X
 stack.

 KiBi.

Bug#575287: Xorg displays blank screen at boot since last upgrade

2010-03-24 Thread Nicolas DEGAND
Package: xserver-xorg-video-radeon
Version: 1:6.12.192-2
Severity: grave
Tags: sid

Since this upgrade, when booting, X fails to display. My monitor flickers
between sleep and active mode, but does not display a thing (see the Xorg.0.log
attached, it seems to append something everytime it flickers).

Trying to switch VT through ctrl-alt-Fx does not work. Reverting to 6.12.5
solves the problem.

at the beginning of the following files in the
/usr/src/drm-modules.tar.bz2/ :

xgi_cmdlist.c
xgi_drv.c

After this ugly fix it works. I hope this get fixed in a better way in a

Bug#273993: The error is still in newer packages

Just FYI, if the package changelog doesn't say the nv driver
hasn't been
patched since -7, you can be pretty confident that you won't
see a change
in behaviors specific to the nv driver.

At present no one seems to have any suggestions for moving
forward, and
it's an open secret that the only people who can maintain
the nv driver are
the folks at NVidia. Maybe they just don't care about older
hardware that
 much any more.

If you're right about NVIDIA, it means that I will never be
able to upgrade until I change hardware (as as far as I
understand, the same change was applied to X.org) ? And that
older hardware includes hardware that is still produced and
sold by NVIDIA (GF 5900 / NV 35) but is not anymore their
flagship product ?

I am sorry if my message only add noise to this bug, but I am
a little bit stunned by this. Do you know a specific address
where I can complain at NVIDIA or should I call my graphics
adapter vendor and hope it will follow-up ? Thank you anyway
to have taken time to answer me.

Bug#273993: The error is still in newer packages

2004-12-11 Thread Nicolas DEGAND
I downloaded the 4.3.0.dfsg.1-9 packages this morning. The error was
still there. I then tried to install the
Ubuntu x.org packages from Hoary. They failed with the very same error
in nv_hw.c apart being line 501 instead of 471. I should have expected
this as you can find this in the Ubuntu changelog

++ Drag nVidia driver back from XFree86 (via X.Org HEAD) with more hardware
+ support, fix for DPMS issues, PCI-Xpress support, DPMS on DVI, cursor
+ fixes for NV11, proper console restoration, and Xv syncing on vblank
+ (fd.o#1777).

So I guess I am stuck with 4.3.0.dfsg.1-7 unless I give a try to the
NVIDIA proprietary drivers...

Sorry, I have fled to Windows following the Xfree failure, and
