I think I've found the problem (grepped with -i this time) - right at the end, there's an entry: Escription-pt_BR: Selecione os modos de v?deo que o X deve usar. If you correct that to "Description" then I don't get that problem any more. (Just a different one instead. But at least it's a change.) Er .. if it's not from either of those packages, then I've no idea! This is the first time I've touched any of the files in the dpkg directories. If it's definitely not present in 4.3.0.dfsg.1-1, then the bug might as well be closed, I guess. -- Paul

Package: xserver-xfree86 Version: 4.1.0-2 Severity: normal Tags: sid When I try to upgrade from xserver-xfree86 4.1.0-2, I get the following complaint from dpkg: Preparing to replace xserver-xfree86 4.1.0-2 (using .../xserver-xfree86_4.3.0.dfsg.1-1_i386.deb) ... ln: /etc/X11/X.dpkg-old': File exists dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/xserver-xfree86_4.3.0.dfsg.1-1_i386.deb (--unpack): subprocess pre-installation script returned error exit status 1 debconf: Unknown template field 'escription-pt_br', in stanza #28 of /var/lib/dpkg/info/xserver-xfree86.templates Errors were encountered while processing: /var/cache/apt/archives/xserver-xfree86_4.3.0.dfsg.1-1_i386.deb E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) (I'm pretty sure that the 'X.dpkg-old' part isn't the problem, but I've included it for completeness.) I've looked through the file it references, and I can't find a field by that description.
