Bug#166562: xfree86: please modify debian/README to allow IPv6 specific patches

2002-10-27 Thread Pierfrancesco Caci
Package: xfree86
Version: 4.2.1-3; reported 2002-10-27
Severity: wishlist
Tags: sid

Hello, can you please modify the debian/README file so as to read:

900-999 patches that should not be sent upstream
 900-988 Debian-specific behavior and enhancements
989 experimental or debugging patches (should not
generally be present in a production release)
 990-999 Debian-IPv6-specific patches

This way the IPv6 effort can have 10 patch slots that are guaranteed not to
clash with other teams' patches.

Thank you

Pf

Compose no longer works

2001-05-19 Thread Pierfrancesco Caci

Hmmm seems my compose key no longer works. I have these lines in
XF86Config-4:

Option LeftAlt Meta
Option RightAlt ModeShift
Option RightCtl Compose
Option ScrollLockModeLock

It used to work fine until the last upgrade And I can activate it
back (albeit on a different key) with the following xmodmap command:

keycode 0x75 = Multi_key

Now, after all this rant, my question is:

did something change in the defaults of 4.0.3 with respect to the
previous versions, concerning keyboard options? I couldn't find
anything relevant in thre changelogs for xfree86-common, and I
wouldn't know where else to look

Pf

keyboard options for an Ultra10

2001-05-11 Thread Pierfrancesco Caci

Hi I need help configuring the keyboard on a Sun Ultra10. The
keyboard is a type 6, for which there is no corresponding file, but
I'd assume that type 5 could be a reasonable subset. The problem is
that I don't know how to correctly set the option in XF86Config.

It looks like two different packages supply a 'cursor' font --
xfonts-base and xfonts-scalable. Ensure to run 'mkfontdir' in all your
font directories. (Located under /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts.) Ensure also
your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file has fontpaths listed for all the font
 directories you do have.

There is something definitely wrong in my system after yesterday's
update:

I DON'T HAVE MKFONTDIR

sigh! :-(

There is something wrong in the man package too, the apropos database
was not created

A, I love unstable life!

 Do you have xutils installed?

bingo! that was the missing package
the problem is that selecting task-x-window-system marks half of the
software I have to be deleted, so I had to manually go over the whole
process, probably forgetting some more pieces other than xutils.

Yup. Unstable fun. :) You can try running it yourself via
 /etc/cron.daily/man-db.

I'm going to file a wishlist bug against man-db: when updating the
package, /etc/cron.weekly/man-db should be fired up, because that is
where the apropos/whatis database is generated

Thanks for your help

missing font?

2000-11-08 Thread Pierfrancesco Caci

After I've managed to get X4 to work, I've completed some updates from
the woody mirrors and now I get this message:

Fatal server error:
could not open default cursor font 'cursor'

Maybe there is some font that is not completely installed: can someone
please tell me which package does this cursor font belong to?

Thanks, Pf

screen size

2000-11-07 Thread Pierfrancesco Caci

My monitor reports a wrong screen size:

(II) MGA(0): Max H-Image Size [cm]: horiz.: 30 vert.: 23
(--) MGA(0): Display dimensions: (30, 23) cm
(--) MGA(0): DPI set to (108, 113)

The visible area of the screen is actually 32x24 cm

Is there a way to force this setting or alternatively the DPI setting?

Thanks,
Pf
