Bug#399204: Newer Via Unichrome Pro cards and support options

2007-04-29 Thread Prakash J Kokkatt

Hello,
The Default xserver-xorg-video-via driver is not supporting my video
card on ASUS P5VDC-MX with VIA Unichrome Pro .(P4M800Pro)
below is my lspci grepped:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. UniChrome
Pro IGP (rev 01) (prog-if 00 [VGA])
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Unknown device 3344
Flags: bus master, 66MHz, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 20
   Memory at d800 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=64M]
   Memory at fd00 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16M]
Expansion ROM at feaf [disabled] [size=64K]
   Capabilities:
For Now,I use Openchrome.org drivers.my card is detected as:
as in Xorg.log in Ubuntu:
(II) VIA: driver for VIA chipsets: CLE266, KM400/KN400, K8M800,
   PM800/PM880/CN400, VM800/CN700/P4M800Pro
(II) Primary Device is: PCI 01:00:0
(--) Chipset VM800/CN700/P4M800Pro found
^ with Openchrome drivers.
So pls include the support for these unichrome pro cards,as newbie
Debian users and geeks
alike struggle to get these cards working,as for now the only option
is "vesa" driver.Hope this be fixed.

I guess you have libx11-6 2:1.1.1-1, right? It uses XCB which raises
some problems, at least with Java, and probably also in some other
applications. Your problem doesn't look similar to the usual XCB
assertions, but just in case, could you try after downgrading libx11-6
1.0.3 from unstable?

Brice

I also found that i can play gmplayer(only this app) by setting Video
in preferences to X11 rather than Xv(i suppose the normal better
driver)

Yes.i got version libx11-6 2:1.1.1-1 installed.I downgraded to try what u said.
Filename: pool/main/libx/libx11/libx11-6_1.0.3-7_i386.deb
xine and gmplayer crashed as usual.see the error msgs
:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ xine
This is xine (X11 gui) - a free video player v0.99.5cvs.
(c) 2000-2006 The xine Team.
X Error of failed request: BadAccess (attempt to access private
resource denied)
Major opcode of failed request: 141 (XVideo)
Minor opcode of failed request: 19 ()
Serial number of failed request: 2605
Current serial number in output stream: 2607

But then this downgrade- it fixed my Azureus and java apps crash :) thx .

Multimedia apps crashes with libxcb esp xine, gmplayer

2007-04-27 Thread Prakash J Kokkatt

Hello,
I have to report this again as i cant play any multimedia Video using
Xine,Mplayer etc from a month.I am using latest Xorg of Debian
Experimental repo+Unstable.
below are the info:
Package: libxcb1
Source: libxcb
Version: 1.0-1.2
When i ran gstreamer-properties to change Video,it also crashed error msgs:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ gstreamer-properties --sync
gstreamer-properties-Message: Skipping unavailable plugin 'artsdsink'
gstreamer-properties-Message: Skipping unavailable plugin 'pulsesink'
gstreamer-properties-Message: Skipping unavailable plugin 'sdlvideosink'
gstreamer-properties-Message: Skipping unavailable plugin 'v4lmjpegsrc'
gstreamer-properties-Message: Skipping unavailable plugin 'qcamsrc'
gstreamer-properties-Message: Skipping unavailable plugin 'esdmon'
gstreamer-properties-Message: Skipping unavailable plugin 'pulsesrc'
The program 'gstreamer-properties' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAccess (attempt to access private resource denied)'.
 (Details: serial 55 error_code 10 request_code 141 minor_code 19)
 (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
Hope this get fixed.I am using openchrome driver for via unichrome cards.

I understood that already. But my question was "why is this driver not
in freedesktop.org as other drivers do?".

Being in other distributions does not mean it can/should be in Debian.
Lots of distrib include lots of crappy packages. License issues as well
as being unstable could be a good reason to keep this driver outside of
Debian. Right now, we have no idea whether this driver is stable or not.
At least, if it was with X.org on freedesktop.org, it would guarantee
that the license and stability are not too bad, and it will make our job
very easy since we already ship lots of drivers from freedesktop.org. If
it is not possible for this driver to go to freedesktop.org, you need to
either find somebody to package it and upload it in Debian (but he will
ask the same questions about license and stability), or ask the
developers on openchrome.org to talk to Debian.

hello,thanks for clarifying that,hopefully this driver(s ) will enter
freedesktop.org and i dont know about the licencing terms :(

Looks like you need to load agpgart before loading the via_agp module.

thx.i'll try loading agpgart first using /etc/modules file or maybe i
need to edit some /etc/rcX.d file?

(instead of loading it after).

The real question is why doesn't this driver go with the others on
freedesktop.org?
It would be better for us to have all drivers there if we want to be
sure everything is sync'ed and maintained...

Brice

Hello,

openchrome.org drivers are included by many popular distros like
sabayon etc.for newer Unichrome pro cards to work in Linux, the only
option i found was using openchrome.I hope someday this will be
resolved and these drivers will enter debian :)
I tried to pinpoint what error i am getting for the reason of system
hangs and X crashes.
the error i got while booting into the Debian Sid system is shown below:

OpenChrome support for Debian Sid+experimental

2007-04-20 Thread Prakash J Kokkatt

Hello Debian X strike force,
I've got computers with via unichrome pro graphics chipset(Asus mobo)
running Debian.for the time my option is to set vesa driver as
xserver-xorg-video-via doesnot support this card yet.I have my main PC
running Debian bleeding edge packages (sid apt-pinned with
experimental repo).I compiled openchrome-->http://openchrome.org and
installed, got it supported but my X often crashes and hangs lock up.So
please have an openchrome deb in ur repos for many ppl using and wants
to use Debian(no ubuntu!).

Azureus crashes with the latest xcb lib.I've sun j2re 1.6
installed.hope this too get fixed.Thx for your work.

 regards and best of Luck,
