Bug#249239: xserver-xfree86: X server crashes when kernel r128 drm module provokes EIP

2007-01-19 Thread Ralf Hildebrandt
* Brice Goglin [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
 Hi Ralf,

 About 3 years ago, you reported a bug to the Debian BTS regarding a
 crash of the X server caused by a Oops in the r128 drm kernel module.
 I'd say the bug was kernel-related. Did you reproduce this problem
 recently?

No, due to lack of the hardware.

If not, I will close this bug in the next weeks.

You have my blessings :)

Bug#362501: Hmmmmm

2006-04-23 Thread Ralf Hildebrandt
I just tried to build the nv driver with the EXA patch installed. It's
not as easy as it seems, since XF86DRI is defined by default, and thus
drm.h is being included -- which is missing. The Wiki says:

you'll also need the DRM module from CVS if you want to use the
Download/Upload hooks

Well, but how do I undef XF86DRI?

 Also, can you try rebuilding the package without
 debian/patches/02_ppc_fix.diff?

Did that. Didn't help. The fonts still look like as if the antialiasing
runs amok...

Bug#362227: xterm fails to start: X Error of failed request: BadRequest

2006-04-12 Thread Ralf Hildebrandt
Package: xterm
Version: 210-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

I tried this on two boxes with Xorg 7.0: both expose the same behaviour:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ xterm
X Error of failed request: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such
operation)
  Major opcode of failed request: 152 (XFIXES)
  Minor opcode of failed request: 23 (XFixesSetCursorName)
  Serial number of failed request: 30
  Current serial number in output stream: 31

Same for rxvt:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ rxvt
X Error of failed request: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such
operation)
  Major opcode of failed request: 152 (XFIXES)
  Minor opcode of failed request: 23 (XFixesSetCursorName)
  Serial number of failed request: 86
  Current serial number in output stream: 87

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ amule
The program 'amule' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)'.
  (Details: serial 85 error_code 1 request_code 152 minor_code 23)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
  that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
  To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
  option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
  backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

So, this rather seems to be an error in the Xserver. This did NOT happen
with an older Xorg 7.0 package I recently installed from
experimental

Bug#280412: xserver-xfree86: vesafb garbled after using X11 with nv driver

2004-11-09 Thread Ralf Hildebrandt
Package: xserver-xfree86
Version: 4.3.0.dfsg.1-8
Severity: important

I use the nv driver in XFree and the vesafb for the framebuffer console.
vesafb works fine, I get the bootlogo and all during boot.

Once X11 starts up and I want to switch back to the framebuffer console using
CTRL-ALT-F1, the framebuffer is garbled. The screen is flickering, as if
the vertical synchronisation is lost. Colors seem to be OK, I get grey
garbage on black background.

Switching back to X11 using ALT-F7 works OK, the X11 screen looks fine.

I made two screenshots to illuminate what I'm seeing:
http://www.stahl.bau.tu-bs.de/~hildeb/bugreport/dsc02089.jpg
http://www.stahl.bau.tu-bs.de/~hildeb/bugreport/dsc02090.jpg
(watch out, high resolution)

It's not entirely clear if it's an issue of the nv driver or the vesafb
in the kernel.

Bug#249399: DRI

2004-06-08 Thread Ralf Hildebrandt
* Branden Robinson [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

  The EIP was generated by a binary that belonged into the
  xserver-common package, so Ithought it would be reasonable.

 Which binary was that?

According to the EIP I had attached:

...
May 15 10:38:23 shawarma kernel: ds: 007b   es: 007b   ss: 0068
May 15 10:38:23 shawarma kernel: Process XFree86 (pid: 3067,
threadinfo=d509c000 task=d686c0b0)
...  ^^^

What is XFree86?

$ locate XFree86
... snip ...
/usr/X11R6/bin/XFree86
... snip ...

$ dpkg -S /usr/X11R6/bin/XFree86

Bug#249399: DRI

2004-06-01 Thread Ralf Hildebrandt
 Have you tried going back to kernel 2.4.x?

No.

 (Why do you keep filing bugs specific to the XFree86 X server against
 xserver-common? Is there a file in the xserver-common package you
 believe to be the cause of your problems?)

The EIP was generated by a binary that belonged into the
xserver-common package, so Ithought it would be reasonable.

Bug#249239: DRM

2004-06-01 Thread Ralf Hildebrandt
I thought that DRM may be the issue due to the fact that disabling DRI
makes the crashes go away. But you are the true X11 master, so what do
I know :)

Bug#249399: xserver-common: drm with ati128 doesn't work reliably anymore

2004-05-17 Thread Ralf Hildebrandt
Package: xserver-common
Version: 4.3.0.dfsg.1-1
Severity: normal

Since a few days now I'm having dire problems with X11 and my ati128
card:

X starts up, after some time it crashes with:
May 17 09:47:58 shawarma kernel: [drm:r128_cce_indirect] *ERROR* reusing

As you see an drm problem, then the crash, then the restart. This
happens frequently:

Bug#196554: xlibs: todays update causes every app to report Xlib: connection to :0.0 refused by server

2003-06-08 Thread Ralf Hildebrandt
* Daniel Stone [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

  This also happens when I try to start kdm from the console.

 Yeah, this is a problem with ?dm and authorization. Try 'startx' from
 the command line.

Yes, this works.

 For the BTS, the problem is that gcc3.3 screws up authentication somehow
 - either cpp3.3's semantics changing, or miscompiled code. This has been
 seen to happen on both powerpc and i386 now, so it's not a
 single-architecture problem. Ugh. :(

Shit happens unlimited.
So is it kdm's or xlibs's fault?
