Bug#772339: intel-gpu-tools: bashism in /bin/sh script
Package: intel-gpu-tools Severity: important Version: 1.8-1 User: debian-rele...@lists.debian.org Usertags: goal-dash Hi, I've ran checkbashisms (from the 'devscripts' package) over the whole archive and I found that your package has a /bin/sh script that uses a bashism. checkbashisms' output: possible bashism in ./usr/bin/intel_gpu_abrt line 3 ($UID should be $(id -ru)): if [[ $UID -ne 0 ]]; then possible bashism in ./usr/bin/intel_gpu_abrt line 3 (alternative test command ([[ foo ]] should be [ foo ])): if [[ $UID -ne 0 ]]; then Not using bash (or a Debian Policy compliant shell interpreter that doesn't provide such an extra feature) as /bin/sh is likely to lead to errors or unexpected behaviours. Please be aware that dash is the default /bin/sh. Please closely examine the above output and the script, and determine what the proper severity of the bug is, and adjust it accordingly. If it's important or greater please hurry to get this fixed for jessie. Hints about how to fix bashisms can be found at: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DashAsBinSh Thanks in advance, Raphael Geissert -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-x-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Package: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics Version: 1.4.0-1+exp1 Hi, For some time now (perhaps since the upgrade to 1.4.0) syndaemon, when executed with -d, -R, and -t (the three together), starts consuming all of the available CPU resources after resuming from a suspension to RAM. Package: wnpp Severity: normal X-debbugs-cc: debian-x@lists.debian.org, debian-de...@lists.debian.org Hi, I no longer have time and working hardware to maintain and test the package. I'm therefore looking for somebody who wants to adopt it. Anyone willing to maintain it please contact the Debian X Strike Force (debia...@lists.d.o). Some info about the package: Description: X.Org X server -- VIA display driver OpenChrome is a project for the development of free and open-source drivers for the VIA UniChrome video chipsets. . Originally called the 'snapshot' release, since it was a snapshot of an experimental branch of the unichrome cvs code, this is a continued development of the open source unichrome driver (from http://unichrome.sf.net) which also incorporates support for the unichrome-pro chipsets. . Support for hardware acceleration (XvMC) for all chipsets has subsequently been ripped out of the unichrome.sf.net driver. Therefore your only option if you wish to make use of the acceleration features of your VIA chip with free and open-source drivers is to use this version of the driver. Bug#507709: reassign 507709 to xserver-xorg-video-openchrome
2009/2/20 Cédric Delfosse ced...@debian.org: reassign 507709 xserver-xorg-video-openchrome Er, why? First of all, it looks like a bug in your package; and second: the -openchrome driver doesn't handle 3D, that's up to the mesa drivers. Won't play BTS ping pong, so you reassign it back to your package. Cheers, -- Raphael Geissert - Debian Maintainer www.debian.org - get.debian.net P. J. Bug#506516: xserver-xorg: Wrong screen resolution on startup, need to restart
Hi, On Saturday 22 November 2008, John Talbut wrote: [...] When I start my computer I often get a screen with the wrong resolution and not centred on the monitor, like this: http://lh3.ggpht.com/_aTSyvLB4YWc/SRFI4A9dk2I/ABM/40kB7pOjaz0/Start %20screen.jpeg (without the moiré effect). If I restart my computer I then get the correct screen. Comparing Xorg.0.log (which gave the correct resolution) and Xorg.0.log.old (before the restart, gave the wrong resolution) things seem to start going wrong at: Xorg.0.log: (--) CHROME(0): VT162x: RGB connected. (II) CHROME(0): ViaModesAttach The problem you are facing appears to be a hardware problem, and according to Xavier Bachelot (one of the openchrome devs) it is likely to be in the i2c bus. He suggests forcing the only active output to be the CRT, to try to workaround the incorrect mode used when something is detected on the tv out. Try by adding the following line to the Device section of your xorg.conf: Option ActiveDevice CRT If you have no Device section, add the following to /etc/X11/xorg.conf: Section Device Option ActiveDevice CRT EndSection Hope that helps. Bug#492404: xserver-xorg-video-openchrome: Resolutions only up to 800x600
Hi, 2008/11/1 [EMAIL PROTECTED]: [...] Setting resolution works flawlessly now. By using glxgears it got 98% cpu usage - which is about the same as when using vesa. Right, but that's an issue with the 3d driver (mesa), not with openchrome. While I'm disappointed about this (i got higher framerate and way less cpu usage by comilling on my own) How did you compile the driver (IOW: what flags/options/etc did you use)? you can consider the bug fixed, as my main problem is solved. Ok, but I'll wait for the others to report whether it works ok now. If I can contribute anything by testing, mail me. Thank you very much for your packaging work! If you want to test something you can take a look at the package in experimental (but beware of some issues when using XAA with the version of xorg in experimental: http://www.openchrome.org/trac/ticket/263) Mathieu Cheers, -- Raphael Geissert - Debian Maintainer www.debian.org - get.debian.net Tallulah Bankhead - If I had to live my life again, I'd make the same mistakes, only sooner. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#496922: xserver-xorg-video-openchrome: mouse cursor disappeared after upgrade
Hi, When replying please don't forget to CC the bug report. 2008/10/6 Paolo Cavallini [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Raphael Geissert ha scritto: http://alioth.debian.org/~atomo64-guest/xserver-xorg-video-openchrome_0.2.902+svn574-1_i386.deb no cursor http://alioth.debian.org/~atomo64-guest/xserver-xorg-video-openchrome_0.2.902+svn572-1_i386.deb no cursor http://alioth.debian.org/~atomo64-guest/xserver-xorg-video-openchrome_0.2.902+svn570-2_i386.deb no cursor The main difference with 570-1 is that -2 was, mistakenly, built against the version of libdrm2 in experimental. Since you were able to install -2 and all the other .debs which depend on experimental's libdrm2, could you please tell me what other packages you installed from experimental? I don't see anything in the rev 570-577 range that could explain the HW cursor problem at first glance. Possibly, the user can add Option SWCursor to his xorg conf to workaround the problem, but a real fix would obviously be better. I tried this once, when I first saw the problem, but it didin't work. I did not check again now. And, as suggested by upstream; could you please also try this one: http://alioth.debian.org/~atomo64-guest/xserver-xorg-video-openchrome_0.2.902+svn596-1_i386.deb funny big square cursor, with changing patterns inside. unusual, better than nothing, but I still suspect users would not appreciate this :) Bah, too good to be true. It is the latest code by upstream, contains the code from the randr branch and It contains new hardware cursor code which might help with this problem (said by upstream). And if the above one didn't work, could you please try this one too? http://alioth.debian.org/~atomo64-guest/xserver-xorg-video-openchrome_0.2.902+svn596+suggestedchange-1_i386.deb no cursor Oh crap, I in my box don't get mouse cursor in 596 without the change that I applied to 596+suggestedchange. With xserver-xorg-video-openchrome_0.2.902+svn570-1_i386.deb, all back to normal. All the best. It might be possible that I will have to rebuild all the packages with unstable's libdrm2 and ask you to test a couple of them, just in case (that's what happens when experimental is used); hope you don't mind. -- Paolo Cavallini, see: * http://www.faunalia.it/pc * Cheers, -- Raphael Geissert - Debian Maintainer www.debian.org - get.debian.net -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. I noted that comment although there is no reference to Mesa in my Xorg log file. I note also that the message seems to originate in the kernel, see /usr/src/linux-source-2.6.26/drivers/char/drm/via_dma.c Yes, if you use nm you will see the via_hook_segment symbol in via_dma.ko: $ nm /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/kernel/drivers/char/drm/via.ko | grep via_hook_segment 0e94 t via_hook_segment But IIRC (based on other messages found via google) the bug is caused by the DRI driver in the via drm module in the kernel; though I am not an expert in the field so I might be wrong. Bug#492404: configuration problem
Hi, 2008/9/29 Y Giridhar Appaji Nag [EMAIL PROTECTED]: On 08/09/15 10:57 +0200, Khalid Shukri said ... I had the same problem, resolution only up to 800 x 600, until I manually put the VertRefresh and HorizSync values of my monitor in xorg.conf. Now I have the full resolution of 1920 x 1200. So this seems to rather be a problem with autoconfiguration OR hardware recognition than with resolution itself I can confirm this behaviour too. I have full resolution once I add the VertRefresh and HorizSync to my xorg.conf Upstream's answer: From the debian bug report's xorg log : (II) CHROME(0): Targa: Using default hsync range of 31.50-37.90 kHz (II) CHROME(0): Targa: Using default vrefresh range of 50.00-70.00 Hz (II) CHROME(0): Clock range: 20.00 to 230.00 MHz The monitor is not sending any EDID, so the driver is falling back to the default values for HorizSync and VertRefresh. I'll tend to say the bug is with the monitor, not the driver. Would be great if the bit from the original reporter's Xorg.0.log can also be found in yours. And of course some info about the monitor will be helpful too. Will anyway tell upstream that the is yet one more affected person with the same symptoms. Bug#496922: xserver-xorg-video-openchrome: mouse cursor disappeared after upgrade
Hi, 2008/9/1 Paolo Cavallini [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Hi all. Thanks for taking the issue. Raphael Geissert ha scritto: Justification: renders package unusable No, it doesn't. At least for me, it does (unless you can guess the mouse posion by imagination...) It doesn't for everyone, nor the majority; so it is important, but should not prevent the package from being shipped in lenny. Like Julien said, upgrade of what? 1:0.2.902+svn570-1 1:0.2.902+svn579-1 If you were using xserver-xorg's PCI cards detection you would require version +579 to be installed as it is the second version ever in Debian and the first one with the required file to detect the PCI cards that openchrome can handle; and there has been no upload after +svn579, yet. Besides that I can not see any change between 570 and 579 that would cause such a problem, but correct me if I'm wrong. The problem seems to lay there. Anyway, please provide some more information like what kind of card you have, the /var/log/Xorg.log.0 file when you actually tried openchrome and not vesa, etc. Everything seems to be on: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=496922 Do you need anything else? After the last upgrade, the driver causes the mouse pointer to Like Julien said, upgrade of what? If you were using xserver-xorg's PCI cards detection you would require version +579 to be installed as it is the second version ever in Debian and the first one with the required file to detect the PCI cards that openchrome can handle; and there has been no upload after +svn579, yet. Besides that I can not see any change between 570 and 579 that would cause such a problem, but correct me if I'm wrong. Anyway, please provide some more information like what kind of card you have, the /var/log/Xorg.log.0 file when you actually tried openchrome and not vesa, etc. disappear. The pointer is working, just not visible. Going back to vesa cured the problem, but the package itself is useless. It would if for example you didn't get any output. Bug#492404: xserver-xorg-video-openchrome: Resolutions only up to 800x600
Hi, 2008/7/25 Mathieu Simon [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Package: xserver-xorg-video-openchrome Version: 1:0.2.902+svn579-1 Severity: important Previously used openchrome from openchrome.org SVN, switched back to vesa and later installed the Debian package. Resolutions are only available up to 800x600@ 56Hz. Using vesa driver is much slower but resolutions higher than this are selectable. The Board is a CN700 Chipset. Is it more an openchrome or a Debian issue? Not Debian's. Have you tried to let the driver find the best resolution for you? (i.e. comment the screen modes you specified). Please let me know if that works, otherwise I'll forward your report to upstream. Thanks Mathieu Cheers, -- Atomo64 - Raphael Please avoid sending me Word, PowerPoint or Excel attachments. Bug#487327: xserver-xorg-video-openchrome: please provide /usr/share/xserver-xorg/pci/openchrome.ids
tag 487327 pending thanks 2008/6/20 Kel Modderman [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Package: xserver-xorg-video-openchrome Version: 1:0.2.902+svn570-1 Severity: wishlist All xserver video packages seem to be providing an ids file at /usr/share/xserver-xorg/pci/ containing a list of vendor + device id strings that can be used for driver autodetection. This is a request for this package to provide one. At a quick glance a simple adaptation of the patch used in xserver-xorg-video-via package should do the trick. Already in git, just waiting the package to be sponsored. Bug#480620: xutils-dev: bashism in /bin/sh script
Package: xutils-dev Severity: important Version: 1:7.4+1 User: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Usertags: goal-dash Hello maintainer, While performing an archive wide checkbashisms (from the 'devscripts' package) check I've found your package containing one or more /bin/sh scripts making use of bashisms. checkbashisms' output: possible bashism in ./usr/bin/ccmakedep line 49 (echo with backslash escapes): echo \c $CPPCMD Not using bash (or a Debian Policy conformant shell interpreter which does provide such an extra feature) as /bin/sh is likely to lead to errors or unexpected behaviours. Please be aware that although bash is currently the default /bin/sh there's a release goal for Lenny to make dash the default /bin/sh[1]. If you want more information about dash as /bin/sh, you can read: http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2008/01/msg00189.html For more information please refer to the Debian Policy section 10.4 supporting this argument at: http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-files.html#s-scripts Hints about how to fix bashisms: Sometimes these bugs are already fixed in Ubuntu, look at the PTS. If not already fixed you can read: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DashAsBinSh [1]http://release.debian.org/lenny/goals.txt Thank you, -- Atomo64 - Raphael Please avoid sending me Word, PowerPoint or Excel attachments. Bug#473701: xserver-xorg: bashism in /bin/sh maintainer script
Package: xserver-xorg Severity: important Version: 1:7.3+10 User: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Usertags: goal-dash Hello maintainer, While checking the list of packages reported by lintian at[0] I've confirmed with the latest checkbashisms (from the 'devscripts' package) that one or more maintainer scripts make use of a bashism. checkbashisms' output: possible bashism in ./DEBIAN/postinst line 1101 (echo -e): echo -e ${card}\t${server}\t${driver} Not using bash (or a Debian Policy conformant shell interpreter which doesn't provide such an extra feature) as /bin/sh is likely to lead to errors or unexpected behaviours. If not already fixed you can read: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DashAsBinSh [0]http://lintian.debian.org/reports/tags/possible-bashism-in-maintainer-script.html [1]http://release.debian.org/lenny/goals.txt Thank you, -- Atomo64 - Raphael Please avoid sending me Word, PowerPoint or Excel attachments. Re: Openchrome Package Audit
David Nusinow wrote: Hi Raphael, Hi David, As I mentioned on IRC, I just made a quick audit of the package. It looks to be in pretty good shape overall, but there's a few issues, mostly small: - Should build-dep on = 2:1.4 for uploads to unstable at this time. This'll have to be bumped in the near future Do we really need to bump the dependency? I was thinking about backports. - Precision Insight has a copyright on the xf86dri.[ch] and xf866drisrh.h files. Add it to debian/copyright Done - This isn't an application, so s/Application License/Library License/ in debian/copyright Ack. - You need to use xsfbs properly rather than copy and paste it in to debian/rules. The way to do it is to add it as a branch to your local git repo using the repo on alioth. Then just merge the xsfbs branch in to your debian-unstable branch. Update your debian/rules accordingly so you don't duplicate the code that's there needlessly. I only copied that part of xsfbs based on the next conversation from #debian-x and because it doesn't look useful for -openchrome: [Sun Jan 13 2008] [10:54:50] Atomo64 wouldn't it be better to ship xsfbs/ in xserver-xorg-dev instead of ship ping it on every single package? [Sun Jan 13 2008] [10:56:09] bgoglin it's suppose to include of other macro that are used everywhere, not only some provides rules [Sun Jan 13 2008] [10:56:21] bgoglin but I am not sure these macros are really used a lot these days [Sun Jan 13 2008] [10:57:23] Atomo64 bgoglin: what's used instead then? [Sun Jan 13 2008] [10:58:13] bgoglin nothing, lots of these macros were used in the old xserver-xorg postinst, for instance [Sun Jan 13 2008] [10:58:22] bgoglin david cleaned a lot of mess in this postinst recently [Sun Jan 13 2008] [10:59:29] Atomo64 so keeping the original package's CDBS usage is fine then? [Sun Jan 13 2008] [11:04:19] bgoglin you still need xsfbs to generates the provides automatically [Sun Jan 13 2008] [11:04:39] Atomo64 I've already merged that part of xsfbs [Sun Jan 13 2008] [11:05:31] jcristau you probably don't need the rest of it Should I anyway ship xsfbs? Overall, it's pretty good, but the way you used xsfbs badly needs to be fixed.
