Bug#486511: compiz-fusion-plugins-main: Windows flicker when focused
Package: compiz-fusion-plugins-main Version: 0.7.6-1 Severity: wishlist (The title of this bug report is not very well formulated, but I couldn't find a concise way to describe what I perceive as a problem. Feel free to retitle.) When using the basic switcher, if I go through several windows before finding the one I want to switch to, I first press Alt, then Tab until I find the one, then I release Alt. While Alt is kept pressed, the current window is kept at the front, and the others are pushed back a bit and darkened. Tab pushes the current one to the back (and darkens it), and brings another one forward (and brings its original colours back too). This is undoubtedly the intended behaviour. Where I feel an improvement could happen is that when Alt is released, then the current window is pushed back with all the others before coming up again, which breaks the flow. I suggest that the window currently selected stay on top, so it can be used immediately when releasing Alt. The other windows can take their time coming back to the front, but the current one shouldn't, in my mind, be subject to another movement since it's already focused and on top at the moment I relase Alt. Bug#469826: xkb-data: Outdated French Dvorak keymap (bépo)
Roland Mas, 2008-05-06 10:17:25 +0200 : Seems to be, thanks. There's a version 0.6.6 currently undergoing vote, though (the vote should be over next Sunday). The vote was longer than expected, as there had to be a second round of voting. But the xkb file on http://www.clavier-dvorak.org/wiki/Version_0.6.6 is final, so I suggest using it. Mohammed Adnène Trojette, 2008-05-01 03:24:46 +0200 : [...] Is the attached patch OK for you? Seems to be, thanks. There's a version 0.6.6 currently undergoing vote, though (the vote should be over next Sunday). From what I can see on [1], there are some minor changes, but also a change in the basic layout (probably a H → X → À rotation). It might make sense to wait until then. Bug#469826: xkb-data: Outdated French Dvorak keymap (bépo)
/usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/fr contains an old version of the Bépo keymap: it lists version 6.2.1.1 (which I believe actually refers to 0.6.2.1.1) but the current upstream version is 0.6.4. Since the changes are not only cosmetic (the Y and H letters have been swapped, for instance), I suggest updating the file in xkb-data. Current data can be found on http://www.clavier-dvorak.org/wiki/Version_0.6.4 There's an even newer upstream version now, 0.6.5.1, with even more non-cosmetic changes (two more letter pairs, R/N and F/J, were swapped). From a discussion I had with upstream on IRC, it seems the layout is approaching stabilisation, so it would be a shame to ship an old version in Lenny. Bug#274103: xlibs: 4.3.0.dfsg.1-8 broke Meta for Emacs
Package: xlibs Version: 4.3.0.dfsg.1-8 Severity: normal Once upon a time, things were nice. My Alt key produced Alt things, my Leftwin key produced Meta things, Rightwin was Compose/Multi-key and Menu was Menu. So I started binding useful commands on Alt-* in Emacs. Then X evolved, and Alt-stuff started producing Meta-stuff. Bummer. Then things evolved some more, and Leftwin-stuff produced Hyper-Super-Meta-stuff. Bummer again, but Emacs was still usable (even though it lacked my Alt-* shortcuts). Then came along the dreaded 4.3.0.dfsg.1-8, last night. Its changelog mentioned stuff related to altwin, so I was delighted. I promptly upgraded, restarted X and Emacs, and was shocked to discover that it was more broken than the day before: Alt-stuff is back to generating Alt-stuff, which is cool since I can now goto-line and boxquote-region and the like in one key combo, but Leftwin-stuff is still generating the hubristic Hyper-Super-Meta-stuff combo. So I'm left with an Emacs without a Meta key, which means I have to use Esc+w, Esc+q, Esc+y, etc. I'd like it if I could go back to §1 please... X ate my console + some other glitches
Hi all, Encouraged by the transition from phase1 to phase2, I decided to switch to Xfree86 4.0.1. Okay, so I twitched my sources.list file, and here goes. My hardware is this: video card is a Riva TNT2 with 32 Mb RAM, monitor is a Dell P991 (19, good stuff), PS/2 mouse, French 105-key keyboard. Now there is one little problem: suppose I freshly booted. Now suppose I want to launch X. I type 'startx', but that command apparently tries to launch the previous version of X (3.3.6). Strange, the startx script isn't owned by any package... Should that be considered to be a problem? Other problem (bigger): once I find that I have to run XFree86, do some stuff (mainly work :-), then I quit. Supposedly I should find my good ole console again, huh? Well, I do, but the screen keeps black. I can use the console if I know what to type ('su -', 'root-pwd', 'reboot' for instance), but the screen keeps black. Until after the reboot, that is. I can restart X and it works OK, but from then until the reboot, text-mode is off. Or maybe it's black on black, dunno, anyway it's unusable for everyday life. Okay, so I installed gdm, but I'd rather like to get rid of it. I want to be able to log on from the console. Other problem: when I'm not root, I get permission denied errors when trying to launch X, e.g /--- | Fatal server error: | Cannot open log file /var/log/XFree86.1.log \--- I guess some program or other isn't setuid or something like that. All this with 0phase2v3. Otherwise, everything works. Great job. Roland. -- Roland Mas You can tune a piano, but you can't tuna fish. -- in the tunefs manual page.

Oops, sorry, it's a known bug not due to Xfree86, but (apparently) to the kernel (I'm running 2.4.0test5, home-compiled under Debian). I should have read the mailing-lists first. I'll keep silent on that point from now on (well... maybe). The other points still remain problems (to my mind). Roland. -- Roland Mas Au royaume des aveugles, les borgnes n'ont qu'un oeil.
