Unfortunately I cannot manage to get a more meaningful backtrace, even
with the -dbg packages installed...

Bug#461153: Rotation on RV350

2008-03-19 Thread Samuel Mimram
Hi,

The problem with rotation on RV350 (left of the screen not refreshed)
does not seem to be present anymore with the
1:6.8.1~git20080302.a4398ac3-1 version of the ati driver. However this
is not fully usable since the mouse pointer is still often messed up.

Thanks for your work!

Cheers,

Samuel.

I've tested in both a sarge and a sid chroot (32bits with a 64bits
kernel). It was already failing in sarge so it is not a regression.

With Julien's patch, the xserver seemed to launch cleanly.

Congratulations and thanks for your work.

Bug#389433: xserver-xorg-video-fbdev: Rotate option does not work anymore

2006-09-25 Thread Samuel Mimram
Package: xserver-xorg-video-fbdev
Version: 1:0.3.0-3
Severity: normal

Hi,

I use fbdev to rotate my screen (my monitor can be turned vertically) since
the driver (ati) for my video card does not support it. The corresponding
option in xorg.conf is:

Option "Rotate" "CCW"

It used to work very well, but since the last reboot of my box I get an
unreadable screen with this option. It looks like four interleaved
copies of the screen (shown horizontally) evenly horizontally
translated (it's a bit hard to describe it, but in one word, it's a
mess).

I guess that the problem was introduced between 1:0.1.0.5-2 and
1:0.3.0-3. It's a bit hard to track this more precisely since no
upstream changelog is shipped with the pacakge.

Feel free to tell me if you need me to do some tests, etc.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers,

Samuel.

Bug#368063: xserver-xorg: BackingStore causes some areas not to be redrawn with a Radeon Mobility M6

2006-05-19 Thread Samuel Mimram
Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.0.18
Severity: normal

Hi,

I've had the BackingStore option enabled for a long time in my xorg.conf.
Approximatively when I upgraded to xorg 7, some areas of the screen started not
to be redranwn. In particular, when I close a window, the portion of the window
below it is often left as a black (or white) square.
It took me some time to understand that it came from the BackingStore option
of my xorg.conf (the problem vanishes if I remove this option).

Thanks for your work.

Cheers,

Samuel.

Same problem here and it does happen with or without those options (and
some others that I've tried). I've checked that silken mouse was really
disabled when I add the option:

size of xserver-xfree86 grew up 8.7 times on i836

2005-02-23 Thread Samuel Mimram
Hi,
The size of the latest xserver-xfree86 package is more than 8 times what
it used to be on i386 or what it is on other archs:

xserver-xfree86_4.3.0.dfsg.1-12_alpha.deb6.3M
xserver-xfree86_4.3.0.dfsg.1-12_hppa.deb 3.9M
xserver-xfree86_4.3.0.dfsg.1-12_i386.deb48.1M
xserver-xfree86_4.3.0.dfsg.1-12_powerpc.deb 5.5M
and same thing for xlibmesa-dri. I find this quite surprising. Is there
a good explanation for that?

Thanks.
Regards,
Samuel.

Bug#256356: xserver-xfree86: X freezes the computer with 2.6.7 kernel

2004-07-13 Thread Samuel Mimram

Ok. I have some bad news.

I have a friend of mine who has the exact same model of computer. He is
running a Gentoo and has no problems with X (which comes from X.org in
Gentoo).
I have compiled a 2.6.7 with his .config and started X with the same
XF86Config-4 as his. However X still crashes. This makes me think that
Debian's XFree86 should be incriminated.

I don't really know and I have no way to know which one should be
incriminated. I have also posted a mail on the lkml about that but
nobody has replied to it.

Since I have no clue about that and it's xfree which takes 100% of the
CPU I decided to file a BR against xfree. If you think this is a kernel
bug you may reassign it.

Bug#256356: xserver-xfree86: X freezes the computer with 2.6.7 kernel

2004-06-26 Thread Samuel Mimram
Package: xserver-xfree86
Version: 4.3.0.dfsg.1-5
Severity: important

I have no problems running X under the 2.6.6 kernel (built from Debian
sources). However when I start it under a 2.6.7 kernel (built from
vanilla sources) there is a black screen when X starts and the
computer is freezed (I am not able to switch to a console). I believe
this is related to the radeon driver:
- when I use the vesa driver or when I disable the hardware acceleration
(NoAccel option), X starts correctly
- when I enable hardware acceleration but I comment the line which sets
AGPMode to 4, X runs correctly for about 1 minute an then freezes (I
cannot switch to a console)
- when hardware acceleration is activated and AGPMode is set to 4 X
freezes immediately

I did not find anything suspicious in the syslog but I might have missed
something. Feel free to tell me if you want me to do some experiments,
etc.

Thanks,

Samuel.
