IIRC
Option "XkbLayout" "en_US'

( I did not even know this file exists )

XKBMODEL="microsoft"
XKBLAYOUT="en_us"
XKBVARIANT=""
XKBOPTIONS="ctrl:nocaps"

let me guess - there should be us in there only?

Bug#596547: keyboard unusable

2010-09-12 Thread Soeren Sonnenburg
Package: xkb-data
Version: 1.8-1
Severity: important

After updating my desktop machine to squeeze my keyboard no longer works
(ok 3 keys on my keyboard among them "u" work). This happens even if I
start with an empty/no xorg.conf.

Starting X manually I noticed this on stderr:

The XKEYBOARD keymap compiler (xkbcomp) reports:
> Error:Can't find file "en_us" for symbols include
> Exiting
> Abandoning symbols file "default"
Errors from xkbcomp are not fatal to the X server
(EE) Unable to open evdev device "/dev/input/event4".
(EE) PreInit returned NULL for "Microsoft NaturalĀ® Ergonomic Keyboard 4000"

So I did a strace and creating this symlink fixed it for me

# cd /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols
# ln -s us en_us

Is this a problem/misconfiguration on my side and intended or should
en_us be shipped indeed?

It is more stable but I still have the same hangs with and w/o kms
enabled on sid-current and -rc4. Well and in addition it now hangs
directly after resume from time to time...

Yes, happens with 2.6.30-rc7+ and xorg-intel-git-current. AFAIK bugs are
filed already.

AFAIK it is not kernel dependent but happens with
xserver-xorg-video-intel version 2.6.X and above (last version known to
work is 2.4.X).

However I am sure now that this is *intel specific* - I've seen no hangs
with ati's.

Bug#525231: X freezes

2009-04-22 Thread Soeren Sonnenburg
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2.7.0-1
Severity: grave

I am seeing the exact same symptoms of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/359392
also since the recent upgrade of xorg/mesa/intel packages in debian (1-2
weeks ago).

These symptoms are:

- random frequent lockups of xorg (one may still move the mouse cursor but the
  display is frozen)
- this happens with at least UXA and EXA (with and without KMS)
- still happens when using xserver-xorg-video-intel version 2.6.3
indicating that these lockups might not be intel only or occur only on
  interplay with certain mesa/xorg versions.
- it appears that the system underneath is still running fine (ssh/ping
  works)
- there is currently no known fix not even a workaround. It does not
help to disable 3d (i.e. by using plain metacity instead of compiz)

Bug#442316: affects custom keys aswell

2007-10-23 Thread Soeren Sonnenburg
Package: xserver-xorg-input-evdev
Version: 1:1.2.0~git20070819-3
Followup-For: Bug #442316

As this in my case broke fn key support, mouse emulation and custom keys
and pommed / gpomme on my macbook pro and took me hours to isolate the
problem I think it is worth adding this info for people being affected
by this great bug in the future.

Ah yes this of course also happens with evdev device en_US keyboard selected in
gnome-keyboard-properties (if one does not do this then even cursor keys
stop working etc etc).

(The suggested solution - downgrade to the package in testing or
removing it makes the system work again)

Bug#385942: xrandr reports negative refreshrates in mergedfb mode

2006-09-03 Thread Soeren Sonnenburg
Package: xserver-xorg-video-ati
Version: 1:6.6.1-2
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

This is basically bug https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6966
, which has a patch attached + which is confirmed to be ok by Alex
Deucher.

As this is breaking all screen-resolution change utilities (e.g.
gnome/kde) I am filing this bug to make sure that at least etch
will have this fix in (as it is currently not yet applied upstream - for
no known reason).

Soeren.

Bug#372918: negative refresh rates in xrandr

2006-06-12 Thread Soeren Sonnenburg
Package: xserver-xorg-video-ati
Version: 1:6.5.8.0-1
Severity: normal

when I look at the output of xrandr I see negative refresh rates not
only confusing me but also e.g. gnome-display-properties (i.e. I can
no longer change resolutions on the fly with that tool)

$ xrandr
 SZ:Pixels Physical Refresh
 0 1280 x 854( 508mm x 318mm ) -15700
*1 1280 x 1024 ( 508mm x 318mm ) *-344
 2 1600 x 1200 ( 508mm x 318mm ) 23793
 3 1680 x 1050 ( 508mm x 318mm ) -2502
 4 1920 x 1200 ( 508mm x 318mm ) 28013 -15700
 5 1024 x 768( 508mm x 318mm ) -15696
 6800 x 600( 508mm x 318mm ) -15703
 7640 x 480( 508mm x 318mm ) -15711
 8400 x 300( 508mm x 318mm ) -15714
Current rotation - normal
Current reflection - none
Rotations possible - normal
