Bug#856039: xserver-xorg-core: no keyboard and no mouse
Hi folks, sorry for the late reply... On Mon, Feb 27, 2017 at 06:17:42PM +0900, Michel Dänzer wrote: > The client side has no impact on which drivers Xorg loads, or when. It > looks like simply neither xserver-xorg-input-libinput nor > xserver-xorg-input-evdev is installed. the problem turned out to be this one. Once I installed xserver-xorg-input-all, everything worked fine. But I have no idea how I had arrived at this situation with the X server being installed, but not any of the input drivers, because the xserver-xorg package (installed) depends on one of those input packages. That's also why it did not occur to me to look at this problem. I can also say for sure that nobody but me is fiddling with the machine in question, at least not yet. Sorry for the noise. Thanks, --Toni++
Bug#856039: xserver-xorg-core: no keyboard and no mouse
Package: xserver-xorg-core Version: 2:1.19.1-4 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable Hi, I installed Debian Testing/amd64 on a machine - basically a fresh install - and yesterday ran an apt-get dist-upgrade to get the latest stuff and finally set up users and X11. For Wheezy and Jessie, and also for Testing up until about a few months ago, X11 did not need any configuration for my machines. The hardware in question ran Wheezy before, but for reasons outside of the scope of this problem, I had to re-install instead of upgrading the machine. After firing up X11, I had neither keyboard nor mouse. In /var/log/messages, I can see that eg. the mouse is being recognised: In the Xorg.0.log file, I can see: Feb 24 14:26:19 debian kernel: [ 7412.497156] usb 3-1: new low-speed USB device number 2 using ohci-pci Feb 24 14:26:19 debian kernel: [ 7412.710194] usb 3-1: New USB device found, idVendor=046d, idProduct=c040 Feb 24 14:26:19 debian kernel: [ 7412.710200] usb 3-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0 Feb 24 14:26:19 debian kernel: [ 7412.710204] usb 3-1: Product: USB-PS/2 Optical Mouse Feb 24 14:26:19 debian kernel: [ 7412.710208] usb 3-1: Manufacturer: Logitech Feb 24 14:26:19 debian kernel: [ 7412.719172] input: Logitech USB-PS/2 Optical Mouse as /devices/pci:00/:00:12.0/usb3/3-1/3-1:1.0/0003:046D:C040.0006/input/input20 Feb 24 14:26:19 debian kernel: [ 7412.719510] hid-generic 0003:046D:C040.0006: input,hidraw2: USB HID v1.10 Mouse [Logitech USB-PS/2 Optical Mouse] on usb-:00:12.0-1/input0 Feb 24 14:26:19 debian mtp-probe: checking bus 3, device 2: "/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:12.0/usb3/3-1" Feb 24 14:26:19 debian mtp-probe: bus: 3, device: 2 was not an MTP device On the console, the keyboard works just fine, and on a different computer, the mouse also works just fine. Unfortunately, this installation is too new, so I don't really know when the problem was introduced. I haven't tried to use X11 on this installation before, so I only noticed the problem today. Bug#676942: Please bind libgl1-mesa-glx and libgl1-mesa-dri more strongly to the same version
Hi, On Thu, Jun 14, 2012 at 11:36:49AM +0100, Simon McVittie wrote: I don't think #676942 was actually a partial upgrade. Toni's initial report said that libgl1-mesa-glx 7.11.2-1 was installed, and the message about it being fixed by upgrading Mesa said after upgrading libgl1-mesa-dri from 7.11.2-1 to 8.0.3-1. So when the bug was visible (ioquake3 having GL_RENDERER: Software Rasterizer and a low framerate as a result), both were in sync, at 7.11.2-1? yes. Now they are out of sync, with libgl1-mesa-dri being at 8.0.3-1, while libgl1-mesa-glx is still at 7.11.2-1. I wondered whether I should upgrade that lib as well. suspect ioquake3 is basically unplayable in software rendering anyway. Maybe - I have 6027.00 BogoMIPS, and it is unplayable. Bug#673582: x11-xserver-utils: xsetroot -def doesn't

So the manpage needs fixing, AFAICT. ok, then please let me rephrase the problem: I've not seen any way to set the background to 'plaid', and neither 'grey' nor 'mod x y' yield satisfactory results for me. Can you please repair this? Thankfully you can help: git clone git://anongit.freedesktop.org/xorg/app/xsetroot I've looked in there and didn't find the place what could have changed. The code section in question reads: /* Handle restore defaults */ if (restore_defaults) { if (!cursor_file) XUndefineCursor(dpy, root); if (!excl) { XSetWindowBackgroundPixmap(dpy, root, (Pixmap) None); XClearWindow(dpy, root); unsave_past = 1; } } But it does so for every revision in git, back to 2007, when it most definitely worked. I'd be most content to have another option that gives me 'plaid' (it doesn't have to be the default), but don't find it. Can you please give me a hint? Package: xserver-xorg-video-radeon Version: 1:6.12.192-2 Severity: normal *** Please type your report below this line *** Hello, after the recent upgrade, my X immediately became unusable. The symptoms were: 1. After reboot, everything looked normal. 2. Package: xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd Version: 1.3.0-2 Severity: important *** Please type your report below this line *** Hello, on my computer, when I move windows around, they get redrawn very slowly after I release the mouse button, causing a very visible ripple effect for something between some 0.3 and 1 seconds per window. This is _awfully_ slow, and unexpected, for such a card and cpu (4c AMD 945 @ 3GHz). Scrolling line by line, eg. in an xterm, is similarly slow and causes massive ripple effects, like if on a 9600 baud modem. Scrolling in FF 3 sometimes even locks the scroll mode, so FF only stops scrolling once I switch to a different virtual screen. You are missing proper /dev/pts/ directory. This is the problem (and it's related to udev, not xterm). I can't judge, but in other words, you suggest that I re-file the bug for udev, right? Package: xterm Version: 210-3.1 Severity: normal *** Please type your report below this line *** Hello, I'm running 2.6.18 and udev 0.100-2, and have the following problem: In /dev, I have 16 files /dev/ptyp[0-f]. I can open 15 xterm, but on the 16th, I get: xterm: Error 32, errno 2: No such file or directory Reason: get_pty: not enough ptys Going to /dev and running ./MAKEDEV pty yields this message: # ./MAKEDEV pty udev active, devices will be created in /dev/.static/dev/ In that directory, I have 256 pty devices (how to increase that?), but xterm doesn't appear to see them. I've considered reporting this problem against the udev package, but was turned away by their message about reporting bugs to udev. Bug#269052: xserver-xfree86: keymappings lost after a few keystrokes
Hi, On Fri, 08.10.2004 at 17:39:52 -0500, Branden Robinson [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I'm sorry it has taken a while to follow up to this report. no problem. Can you tell us what you're trying to accomplish with your xmodmap configuration? Perhaps there is an XKB configuration we can recommend that will serve your needs. Of course: I'm a native speaker of German, not English, and use some other languages on occasion. Example: Swedish, rarely French. My work consists about half of programming and discussing with English speaking people, and the other half is writing texts in German. I'm a user of vi, emacs and LaTeX, too... Most programming languages require the use of braces, brackets, backslashes and the like which are very awkward to reach on a normal German keyboard layout. Likewise, and depending on the keyboard, Escape may be far off, Backspace and Delete switched, and you name it - there are other oddities on keyboards which make work cumbersome and straining. These I correct partially with my xmodmap as follows: - Select a base layout of en_US (pc105) - Make AltGR let me type in the German Umlauts with ease (and where they are prointed on the keycaps). - Swap Backspace and Delete - Swap 'Escape' and 'Menu' - Have the few more rarely used keys on AltGR + some other key (eg. AltGR + 'a' - å) I'm already looking into XKB, but haven't gotten very far. Best, --Toni++
Bug#269052: xserver-xfree86: keymappings lost after a few keystrokes
Package: xserver-xfree86 Version: 4.3.0.dfsg.1-6 Severity: normal Hello, when configuring my keyboard using xmodmap, the server loses these mappings after a few keystrokes and also switches part of the keyboard off so they donŽt even generate any more events. IŽve come to this conclusion after reading bug #268363. Restarting X several times, immediately running xev and checking for keycodes. Generating keycodes stops for some keys after about 5-20 keys. I assume the keyboard is not broken because leaving X and restarting gives the same result, everytime. The keys affected are (only!): Escape, Menu, both Windows keys, PageUp, PageDown, Beginning, End. After removing the xmodmap from my .xsession and reconfiguring the keyboard for us_intl instead of us only in the vain hope that this will result in a useful keyboard layout, I have the keys mentioned above all working with no missing keycode events, although with sometimes strange effects. The strange effects is that now I have no idea what some of these keys now do, save that Escape, PageUp, PageDown, Beginning and End work as expected in VIM (part of my now lost reshuffling was to make the keyboard more useful...).
