Or is it a lockup of > the window manager that looks like but isn't a lockup of X ? I think it's just a lockup of the window manager looking like a lockup of X. In any case the ctrl-alt-f? shortcuts still worked, the mouse pointer was still being drawn correctly and I could still move it, but nothing in the interface was actually doing anything when I tried to click on it. Not on the windows, not inside the applications, though the last time this happened was with azureus, which was still updating on screen (% counters changing and such) even though I couldn't interact with it. In any case, I have now upgraded the wm and not seen any problems since. greets, Wim -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi, I tracked this down to an xfwm4 bug (#442053). I'm upgrading now and hopeful this issue won't crop up again so you can close this bug. greets, Wim -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Wasn't opening any pdf files this time so it doesn't seem to be related to that. Had just finished playing a video file, I closed the window, went to find deluge (bittorrent client) and noticed it had no window. When I clicked the taskbar icon to bring it into focus everything started freezing again. All this with the nv free driver. Sorry I forgot to save the log file. greets, Wim -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Bug#446935: xserver-xorg: Seems to lock up occasionally for no apparent reason
Package: xserver-xorg Version: 1:7.3+2 Severity: normal Hi, I've been having some problems with xorg locking up lately. It seems to happen most when I open a pdf in evince. Then the following happens. - evince starts up, buttons, window bar etc. show up correctly - pdf doesn't get rendered - mouse is still being rendered correctly, I can still move it etc but I can not click anything (no actions), I can not switch virtual desktop. Alt-tab etc. does not work. ctrl-alt-f1 does work, as well as ctrl-alt-backspace. I'm using xfce4 and the nvidia propietary drivers. I have no idea what's going on here. The only other thing I noticed is when I switch to console with ctrl-alt-f1 and back to the xserver stuff like this shows up in the logs: (II) Open ACPI successful (/var/run/acpid.socket) (II) NVIDIA(0): Setting mode "1280x1024" (II) Configured Mouse: ps2EnableDataReporting: succeeded and (from syslog): acpid: client connected from 12188[0:0] 1 client rule loaded But this looks like normal application behaviour (?). If you have any ideas for debugging this when it occurs again, please let me know. -- Package-specific info: Contents of /var/lib/x11/X.roster: xserver-xorg /etc/X11/X target does not match checksum in /var/lib/x11/X.md5sum. Bug#390503: Compiz still crashes

So, if you "just" tried to upgrade compiz, > you might still be running an old libdecoration. What does "dpkg -l | > libdecoration" say? Turns out it was indeed the libdecoration problem. Upgrading libdecoration0 from 0.3.6 to 0.5.x solved the problem. The workspace switch is now horribly broken though (ctrl-alt-arrows does not work, windows on other workspaces are not visible as icons), but I guess that's another bug to report. Window borders look fine. greets, Wim -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Bug#390503: Compiz still crashes
Hi, trying to start compiz now errors out with the following: GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap is available with direct rendering. Segmentation fault (core dumped) So no window borders but then no compiz either. This is with nvidia latest drivers available in non-free on a GF 6600 gpu. greets, Wim -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Bug#392108: compiz: Can confirm
Package: compiz Version: 0.2.0-1 Followup-For: Bug #392108 I've had this same bug. However, it seems unrelated to the other bug report since I had a machine where the dbus plugin was enabled and not causing problems, but window borders weren't displaying at first. Using the fix suggested in the other bug report seems to fix this, and initially fixes it on my other machine, but window borders disappear after opening a new window. Disabling the dbus plugin apparently solves that instance of the problem (though you need to restart compiz for it to take effect). This is on sid with experimental nvidia drivers. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Kernel: Linux 2.6.16-2-k7 Locale: LANG=nl_BE.ISO-8859-1, LC_CTYPE=nl_BE.ISO-8859-1 (charmap=ISO-8859-1) Versions of packages compiz depends on: ii compiz-core 0.2.0-1OpenGL window and compositing mana ii compiz-gnome 0.2.0-1OpenGL window and compositing mana ii compiz-gtk0.2.0-1OpenGL window and compositing mana ii compiz-plugins0.2.0-1OpenGL window and compositing mana compiz recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
