Yes, it may happen the hostname has changed during the time.

Bug#620142: xserver-xorg: Wrong screen resolution on Intel 945GM

I removed vesa driver which was installed automatically. Restarting kdm 
didn't work.

Reboot fixed that, got proper resolution now.
