Re: Nobody cares about xserver-xorg-video-newport?

2011-05-19 Thread Edwin Kwan

Hi,

I finally got it to work. There may be some problem with evdev. But
the new X server doesn't show a background even when it starts
successfully. (The background is just black.) Now I added an xsetroot
-def line to the X startup script. It is now usable and that's good
enough for me. :)

check your Xorg-config and check for:

* monitor video card hardware feature settings
* especially whether your monitor supports DPMS (power saving)

** Double check to make sure there is an available video [screen,
display, mode] and and it's the default mode when starting X

(IIEWPORT(0): Not using default mode 2048x1536 (insufficient memory

I don't think kernel options effects this but it wouldn't hurt to look
over what the kernel is doing. sometimes simple VGA for terminal mode
is safer!

I sympathize all over with you I wish things would progress while not
breaking what were ALREADY working :) You can easily try using or
compiling [an alien(1)] pre-built package though.

From the logs I have, the X server in lenny was 1.4.2 and the
new one is 1.7.7.

I found this thread on the Debian mailing list archives. And on
this topic, I am certainly using xserver-xorg-video-newport! :)

The current symptom is a black screen, and if I kill Xorg, the
screen stays black and I lose even the virtual terminals (which I
could switch between using Ctrl-Alt-F? to at least see the Linux
console before I killed Xorg).

If you know of a way to make the X packages in squeeze work on
this box, I would be happy to know. In the meantime, I am planning to
remove X and after finishing up the upgrade, try to get an orphaned
set of the lenny packages on it.

I would be interested to know what the future is for X on this
hardware? If you guys still want to make it work, do you want me to
help with testing?

Thanks!

Bug#589045: libdrm-intel1/etc. useless package split

2010-07-14 Thread Török Edwin
Package: libdrm-intel1
Version: 2.4.20-2
Severity: normal

I see that there are a bunch of libdrm packages installed on my system:
ii libdrm-dev 2.4.20-2
Userspace interface to kernel DRM services -
ii libdrm-intel1 2.4.20-2
  Userspace interface to intel-specific kernel
ii libdrm-nouveau1 2.4.20-2
  Userspace interface to nouveau-specific kern
ii libdrm-radeon1 2.4.20-2
  Userspace interface to radeon-specific kerne
ii libdrm2 2.4.20-2
Userspace interface to kernel DRM services -

How nice, I can keep only the drm package I need for my card and remove the
rest, right? That is why they were split into separate packages in the first
place, right? Wrong.
I have a radeon card, so I try removing libdrm-intel1.

# apt-get remove libdrm-intel1
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  libdrm-dev libdrm-intel1 libgl1-mesa-dri xorg xserver-xorg-video-all
xserver-xorg-video-intel

That didn't go well.

# apt-get remove libdrm-nouveau1
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  libdrm-dev libdrm-nouveau1 xserver-xorg-video-all xserver-xorg-video-nouveau

This is a bit better, but it still wants to remove the -dev package.

To sum up: the libdrm-* split is useless: you can't remove one package without
removing all the other, so why split them up in the first place?

Please either make these packages individually installable/removable, or create
just 1 libdrm package and don't split it into 3 different packages.

Bug#483206: [xserver-xorg-video-intel] Xorg: screen gets blank randomly, and there is no way to recover

2008-05-28 Thread edwin

Brice Goglin wrote:

Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

I was writing an email in icedove, suddenly the screen went black
(backlight still on).
I switched to VTYs, and I could run commands, but switching back to X
gave me a blank screen again. I tried typing, moving the mouse, with no
results.

I have started x11vnc from a terminal, and connected remotely, however
all I got was a black screen.
I also tried suspend-to-RAM, but it didn't bring me back the X console
either (and neither did vbetool dpms off/on).

I had to reboot (restarting just the X server didn't work either)

I don't know how to debug this if it happens again. Any suggestions?

Also, I never had such problems before upgrading to version 2.3.1 of the
intel video driver.
E.g. now sometimes when I login X is killed, and restarted, the 2nd
login works fine. Unfortunately it is not always reproducible.

I am running a 2.6.26-rc1 kernel, should that matter.

Can you try with latest upstream git? Some possibly related lockup were
fixed today (see https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13326).

Yesterday when I logged in, X got restarted again, I looked in
Xorg.0.log, and dmesg, and there was nothing related to a crash or
restart. The last entries in Xorg.0.log were these:

(II) Configured Mouse: ps2EnableDataReporting: succeeded
(II) intel(0): xf86UnbindGARTMemory: unbind key 0
(II) intel(0): xf86UnbindGARTMemory: unbind key 1

Today's Xorg.0.log doesn't contain the unbind key message:
(II) Configured Mouse: ps2EnableDataReporting: succeeded

An older log (Xorg.20.log) shows:
(II) Configured Mouse: ps2EnableDataReporting: succeeded
(II) intel(0): xf86UnbindGARTMemory: unbind key 5
(II) intel(0): xf86UnbindGARTMemory: unbind key 6

I was not yet able to reproduce the issue today with the debian package.
(I did a dist-upgrade this morning, but nothing xorg related).

I will try the upstream git, but first I need to find a way to tell
wether the bug is still present or not ;)

Some things that may somehow be related to such lockups: using EXA (i.e.
not having Option AccelMethod XAA), using multiple monitors at the same
time, having framebuffercompression enabled, ...

I am not using multiple monitors, the problem happens with the laptop's
LCD.
EXA, and framebuffer compression is enabled, but I didn't explicitly
asked for that (default?).

Please send the full output of output after running
/usr/share/bug/xserver-xorg/script 3 output.

Attached, I have run the script when the screen is working.

 And please do not use
reportbug-ng since it does not automatically include all required info
that we need to diagnose the problem.

Sorry, I thought reportbug and reportbug-ng are functionally equivalent.

Spoke too soon, I get an underrun even with the git intel driver, Xorg

Bug#483206: [xserver-xorg-video-intel] Xorg: screen gets blank randomly, and there is no way to recover

Can you try with latest upstream git? Some possibly related lockup were
fixed today (see https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13326).

Yesterday when I logged in, X got restarted again, I looked in
Xorg.0.log, and dmesg, and there was nothing related to a crash or
restart. The last entries in Xorg.0.log were these:

(II) Configured Mouse: ps2EnableDataReporting: succeeded
(II) intel(0): xf86UnbindGARTMemory: unbind key 0
(II) intel(0): xf86UnbindGARTMemory: unbind key 1

Today's Xorg.0.log doesn't contain the unbind key message:
(II) Configured Mouse: ps2EnableDataReporting: succeeded

An older log (Xorg.20.log) shows:
(II) Configured Mouse: ps2EnableDataReporting: succeeded
(II) intel(0): xf86UnbindGARTMemory: unbind key 5
(II) intel(0): xf86UnbindGARTMemory: unbind key 6

I was not yet able to reproduce the issue today with the debian
package. (I did a dist-upgrade this morning, but nothing xorg related).

I will try the upstream git, but first I need to find a way to tell
wether the bug is still present or not ;)

It happened again, and I got those 2 unbind entries in Xorg.0.log again.
I downloaded latest git, built it and installed it from a text console
(without rebooting). I have run the reg_dumper tool (attached output as
'dump').
After installing the latest git of the intel video driver, I have
restarted X (without rebooting), and I got this in my Xorg.0.log:

(EE) intel(0): underrun on pipe B!
(EE) intel(0): underrun on pipe B!
(EE) intel(0): underrun on pipe B!
...
(II) intel(0): xf86UnbindGARTMemory: unbind key 0
(II) intel(0): xf86UnbindGARTMemory: unbind key 1

I have rebooted, and I didn't get an underrun yet since.

Bug#483206: [xserver-xorg-video-intel] Xorg: screen gets blank randomly, and there is no way to recover

2008-05-27 Thread edwin

Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.3.1-1
Severity: normal

Bug#374026: xserver-xorg-input-kbd: keyboard stops working randomly

2006-06-16 Thread Torok Edwin
Package: xserver-xorg-input-kbd
Version: 1:1.0.1.3-2
Severity: important

The keyboard stops working after a certain amount of time. (~twice a week)
When this happens I can still use the mouse, but no matter where I move the
focus nothing of what I type shows.
Neither ctrl-alt-F1, ctrl-alt-backspace,... nothing works.
In kde I used switch user-start new session to start a new x server. There
everything works fine.
If I switch back to the old X server the keyboard doesn't work anymore (I have
to use the mouse to switch back).

I never had this problem before with xorg 7.0
This problem started to appear after the upgrade to xorg 7. I have found no way
to reproduce it in a predictable way
(except waiting for it to happen).
I am locking/unlocking my workstation frequently (kde-lock session), but I've
never had problems with the keyboard before.
Also the keyboard lockup doesn't occur right after unlocking the
workstation.(it might happen a few hours later).

What can I do to debug this situation the next time it happens?
Is there any command I can run (on the other X, or with the mouse) to somehow
reset the keyboard in X?

I also found this in :0's logs, they don't appear in :1's logs:
SetGrabKeysState - disabled
SetGrabKeysState - enabled
(II) NVIDIA(0): Setting mode 1280x1024
(II) Configured Mouse: ps2EnableDataReporting: succeeded
SetClientVersion: 0 9
SetGrabKeysState - disabled

I know enabled AllowDeactivateGrabs to see if that can save the X session next
time.
