Bug#653828: xdm : error with auth due to xdm
Package: xdm Version: 1:1.1.10-3 Severity: important Hello, I have upgraded the debian machine, and xdm is not working anymore. This only for one user. It seems that the issue is due to auth. It works well with tty and all other users, and also with deleting all data and so on. So it comes really from xdm / auth. Check out ~/.xsession-errors maybe? Closing as not our bug. Cheers, Julien --- The proposed solution is unfortunately not leading to any hints/clues of what is going on. ~/.xsession-errors contains normal lines. However, a solution is as follows to solve the bug issue of xdm. It is simply due to the fact that xdm stores into its configuration wrong inputs. I have been tried all kind of ways, and in order to make xdm work again to overcome the bug, one must follow the following steps. (1) You login as root, and you enter the following to rebuild the xdm: On machine that have no kdm (problem between xdm and kdm), you must type (killall kdm) is not necessary. (2) /etc/init.d/xdm stop; killall kdm; /etc/init.d/xdm start Stopping X display manager: xdm. kdm: no process found Starting X display manager: xdm. If you have had previously kdm, on the linux machine, you'd better kill kdm. (3) it should now work Alternatively: If for all the users that cannot login and that complain about your installation, you simply have to tell them that the xdm is reloaded/restarted and that they have to be patient. This bug issue will be fixed soon or later, and if it does not work again, they can type as user (not root): cd ; rm .Xauthority and this will solve the problem related to the xdm process. This solution worked on 3 machines where this issue has been reported since some time. Maybe an upgrade (i.e. : apt-get update ; apt-get upgrade) ? I hope that this solution will help some users using xdm to make it work and in order to solve this bug of xdm. Best regards / Happy New Year. It Didn't Work Fup:Re:Issues with latest stable lenny xserver (Intel)
Hello dear Debian-X members, please do include me in CC since I'm not subscribed to this list. A good friend of mine is running Debian Lenny. Kernel is v. 2.6.26-2-686 and xserver-xorg-intel is v. 2:2.3.2-2+lenny8, this may be important since he's having a 82G33/G31 Express chip onboard video; the result is: the system boots up okay, but X doesnt start; so he did tried to add: Driver VESA or Driver intel or Driver i810 or Option AccelMethod XAA or Option AccelMethod X11 in the device section of xorg.conf. But Nothing Works At All : if he can start Gnome then ctrl+alt+f* totally doesn't work, no effects, no changes, no errors. If he reset the orig. xorg.conf then Gnome no longer starts at all. Any help is urgently welcome; thanx in advance! Bug#588659: xserver-xorg: working on it, seems that no screen found, P7H55M
Dear Sir, I am encountering with the following necessity of using TESTING SQUEEZE for this new hardware : ASUS P7H55M Pro; that the xserver-xorg freezes very often. It does turn off the monitor [sort of energy screen dpmi saving off] and then there is no way to get the monitor back again. SSH still works however. I tried to xset to turn back ON the monitor but no way. This is occuring after a long time period of several hours are leaving alone the PC wihtout any users using it. Bug#588659: xserver-xorg: working on it, seems that no screen found, P7H55M
Dear Sir, I would like to thanmk you for your complete reply. I am so disappointed that Lenny is not supporting this video card, since it is ok new, but not that much. Would you know if LENNY from KMUTO (jp) would work for that type of video card? I had to reboot the machine, with Squeeze testing, and the video worked, with my additional passed THING into Grub for options (can remmenber , havent now pc under hands) I am so disappointed to have to use Squeeze. The distro is pretty unstable, and I cannot browse on Internet with FIREFOX using NFS, it modifies my Grub installing Gnome, one unknown package blocks my shutdown, pidgdiin or command line purple is flooding my server with non necessary packages... - Well, lenny would be a better release to be used ... for servers... :( Best regards / All the best health ! When I go away from the pc for a long period, watching for instance a movie avi or playing an internet video stream, this results in a frozen PC. Too points are coming. THis is actually occurring time to time and it is noteworthy that SSH still works, in other words, the pc looks like frozen but I can still log into with SSH. However when loged into with SSH, halt or shutdown input command from root fails. Due to my lack of knowledge with LINUX, in further coding range, I do not know which file would help you in order to give your further complete information. Please do not hesitate, I would be very kindly happy to contribute in helping with my inputs. Bug#585067: keyboard-configuration: No alt+gr keys working after some time
Dear Sir, Regarding teh bug, since the issue remained, I recently bought a new keyboard because of the non working altgr. So I choosed a PS2, could manage to find one, logitech, for 50 euros. And unfortunatley, the keyboard is not working either... so I am so sorry about it. So the other one didnt work either, this altgr. This means that I have 2 keyboards that arent working for this altgr. I am considering teh fact that it is not the keyboard now itself. Could it be X11 itself ? I mean I am using JWM as windows manager on this computer, and visibly hte altgr works when I am under TTY1,2,... when I press alt ctrl F1 best regards Yellow On Thu, Jun 17, 2010 at 8:58 PM, yellow protoss yellowprot...@gmail.comwrote: I attached the output file. thank you Best regards On Tue, Jun 15, 2010 at 11:33 PM, Julien Cristau jcris...@debian.orgwrote: On Sat, Jun 12, 2010 at 21:53:30 +0200, yellow protoss wrote: cat /etc/default/keyboard # If you change any of the following variables and HAL and X are # configured to use this file, then the changes will become visible to # X only if HAL is restarted. So If you can be specific what you require, I can surely provide it, and would be pleased to contribute. As somewone who has actually used JWM I can say that this is an environment for people who are more or less experienced and know how to fix the bugs in their own configurations. Julien provided you with a hint what you should look at: the 'setxkbmap us' command in your startup script is not correct because you want a German layout. I have been trying the 'setxkbmap us' , 'setxkbmap de' , and 'setxkbmap fr' and changed with those 2 keyboards. It did not work at all and altgr remains not working. I tried teh several reconfiguration of the X mapping. I would say that it is a bug, as simply as that. I use debinan since many many years. and in the stable edition, my keyboard was working fully. Never got any problems I agree with him that for now the best course of action would be to close this bug. I do not understand why you would like to close the bug since the issue remains and stable debian distro has workign keyboard: I may quote: I have been trying the 'setxkbmap us' , 'setxkbmap de' , and 'setxkbmap fr' and changed with those 2 keyboards. It did not work at all and altgr remains not working. I tried teh several reconfiguration of the X mapping. I would say that it is a bug, as simply as that. I use debinan since many many years. and in the stable edition, my keyboard was working fully. Never got any problems My advice for you is to either address some user support forum/mailinglist and provide them with every detail of your particular configuration, or to use some standard environment, such as Gnome or KDE. I have never meet the issue under Debian Stable, previously installed on the machine. I may suppose that it remains under X11 / JWM some further investigations. If you choose the second option, then first make sure you have removed all your system-wide customizations in /etc and second, create a new user and experiment with it. I have several users , and all users have same issue. My concern is why you would like to close the bug since the issue remains and no solutions may be proposed or have working potential by dint of trying. I bought a new keyboard, and the issue remains.
