Bug#653828: xdm : error with auth due to xdm

Looks like xdm is working just fine, but your session is exiting after
1s. Check out ~/.xsession-errors maybe? Closing as not our bug.

Cheers,
Julien

---
The proposed solution is unfortunately not leading to any hints/clues of what
is going on. ~/.xsession-errors contains normal lines.

However, a solution is as follows to solve the bug issue of xdm.

It is simply due to the fact that xdm stores into its configuration wrong
inputs.

I have been tried all kind of ways, and in order to make xdm work again to
overcome the bug, one must follow the following steps.

(1) You login as root, and you enter the following to rebuild the xdm:

On machine that have no kdm (problem between xdm and kdm), you must type
(killall kdm) is not necessary.

(2) /etc/init.d/xdm stop; killall kdm; /etc/init.d/xdm start
Stopping X display manager: xdm.
kdm: no process found
Starting X display manager: xdm.

If you have had previously kdm, on the linux machine, you'd better kill kdm.

(3) it should now work

Alternatively: If for all the users that cannot login and that complain about
your installation, you simply have to tell them that the xdm is
reloaded/restarted and that they have to be patient. This bug issue will be
fixed soon or later, and if it does not work again, they can type as user (not
root):

cd ; rm .Xauthority

and this will solve the problem related to the xdm process.

This solution worked on 3 machines where this issue has been reported since
some time. Maybe an upgrade (i.e. : apt-get update ; apt-get upgrade) ?

I hope that this solution will help some users using xdm to make it work and in
order to solve this bug of xdm.

Best regards / Happy New Year.
Y.

2011-08-23 Thread yellow
Package: xterm
Version: 261-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

I would like to have easier coding when coping some lines into xterm from gedit.

(xclip -o gives you its content, mouse middle click paste it)

Then I modify this line of code to my purpose, and press ENTER

You might want to modify it and improve your line command, so ok, press UP
ARROW KEY.

Not working? - really

Please add this to another wishlist when you may find little time to add this
gorgeous wished feature for coders.

Sincerely,
Y.

Bug#639097: wishlist: easier configuration for several Displays

2011-08-23 Thread yellow

Hi Xdm,

I would like to give a few wishlist.

The output of the command returns :

! Comment out this line if you want to manage X terminals with xdm
DisplayManager.requestPort: 0
X11/xdm/xdm-config (END)

This file is actually the config.

For users that would like to have xdm running onto :0 :1 and :2, the
DisplayManager.requestPort: 0 is quite obscur for understanding.

Into GDM configuration it was more straightforward to understand what it mean
and how to add additional :0 :1 .. gdm.

Please could you update the config making it easier to modify.

Actually to set up : :0 ... until :6, shall I use DisplayManager.requestPort:
   1
...
DisplayManager.requestPort: 6
?

Thanks for maintaining XDM !

Its light, it rocks, and we need solutions ligthweight simple like XDM !!

Thank you very much !

Yellow

Bug#582633: xdm: it could be cool that XDM has a session choiser (jwm, gnome,...)

Hello,

Thanks for the trick. -Well the solution is nice but bit artificial.

I was wishing a little additional button onto the wdm which lists the WMs
and let the user choose it, bit like gdm for instance.

Kind regards

I did try the .xsession, but this is only a console based solution.
A little tiny mini icon somewhere on it would be so great for selecting
 the
  windows manager ...

Just install the choosewm package. At least in my case it was
automatically made the default x-session-manager and asks the user
after logging in which session should be started.

If that's not the case on your system, just call update-alternatives
--config x-session-manager as root to configure it as the default
 x-session-manager.

It Didn't Work Fup:Re:Issues with latest stable lenny xserver (Intel)

2010-11-16 Thread yellow . penguin
Hello dear Debian-X members,

please do include me in CC since I'm not subscribed to this list.

A good friend of mine is running Debian Lenny.
Kernel is v. 2.6.26-2-686
and xserver-xorg-intel is v. 2:2.3.2-2+lenny8,
this may be important since he's having a 82G33/G31 Express chip onboard
video;

the result is: the system boots up okay, but X doesnt start;
so he did tried to add:
Driver VESA or
Driver intel or
Driver i810 or
Option AccelMethod XAA or
Option AccelMethod X11
in the device section of xorg.conf.
But Nothing Works At All :
if he can start Gnome then ctrl+alt+f* totally doesn't work, no effects, no
changes, no errors.
If he reset the orig. xorg.conf then Gnome no longer starts at all.

Any help is urgently welcome; thanx in advance!

I did try the .xsession, but this is only a console based solution.

Bug#588659: xserver-xorg: working on it, seems that no screen found, P7H55M

2010-09-21 Thread yellow protoss
Dear Sir,

I am encountering with the following necessity of using TESTING SQUEEZE for
this new hardware : ASUS P7H55M Pro; that the xserver-xorg freezes very
often.

It does turn off the monitor [sort of energy screen dpmi saving off] and
then there is no way to get the monitor back again.

SSH still works however. I tried to xset to turn back ON the monitor but no
way.

This is occuring after a long time period of several hours are leaving alone
the PC wihtout any users using it.

(sorry for my bad english )
Best regards

It seems that no screen/card is found ; but well startx gives something

This looks like a very recent graphics card, it won't work fine with
Lenny. You must upgrade to squeeze/testing, use a kernel at least
2.6.32-5-amd64/686 (the 2.6.32-3 you tried is not recent enough, take
the one in testing right now), let KMS enabled and use recent intel
driver (maybe even 2.12 in experimental) and Xserver.

 Hello,

 I do this
 # exec irpsion5 -s reboots.log
 No IRDA device found

 it gives an error.

I wanna repeat it, so I press Up on keyboard to get this failed command
again into prompt, and It is the previous one, not the :
 exec irpsion5 -s reboots.log

it is reproducible with all failed comamnds. and this was a given example.

In stable, it works nicely those failed command and pressing up arrow on
keyboard can show the bash history failed or not :(

2010-08-31 Thread yellow protoss
Dear Sir,

I would like to thanmk you for your complete reply. I am so disappointed
that Lenny is not supporting this video card, since it is ok new, but not
that much.

Would you know if LENNY from KMUTO (jp) would work for that type of video
card?

I had to reboot the machine, with Squeeze testing, and the video worked,
with my additional passed THING into Grub for options (can remmenber ,
havent now pc under hands)

I am so disappointed to have to use Squeeze. The distro is pretty unstable,
and I cannot browse on Internet with FIREFOX using NFS, it modifies my Grub
installing Gnome, one unknown package blocks my shutdown, pidgdiin or
command line purple is flooding my server with non necessary packages... -
Well, lenny would be a better release to be used ... for servers... :(

Best regards / All the best health !

Bug#593099: /usr/bin/setxkbmap: bash: getting current keymap

2010-08-15 Thread yellow
Package: x11-xkb-utils
Version: 7.5+5
Severity: minor
File: /usr/bin/setxkbmap

I'm writing a little bash script that will toggle the keymap. I am currently
using setxkbmap -print|grep -q $KBD1 to check the current keymap. It's
working fine for this case but I am wondering if there is a command that
returns the current keymap. I've read man pages for setxkbmap, xmodmap, etc
but couldn't find anything.

#!/bin/bash

KBD1=us
KBD2=ca_enhanced

if setxkbmap -print|grep -q $KBD1
then
  setxkbmap $KBD2
else
  setxkbmap $KBD1
fi

it could be useful that setxkbmap says which one is currently using :
de, fr, us, ca ;;; or customed ...

Bug#592632: X11: my monitor / screen freeze after more than 30minutes

2010-08-11 Thread yellow
Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.5+6
Severity: important

Dear Sir,

I would like to report you the behavior of my debian testing machine. When I go
away from the pc for a long period, watching for instance a movie avi or
playing an internet video stream, this results in a frozen PC.

Too points are coming. THis is actually occurring time to time and it is
noteworthy that SSH still works, in other words, the pc looks like frozen but I
can still log into with SSH. However when loged into with SSH, halt or shutdown
input command from root fails.

Due to my lack of knowledge with LINUX, in further coding range, I do not know
which file would help you in order to give your further complete information.
Please do not hesitate, I would be very kindly happy to contribute in helping
with my inputs.

Thank you in advance

Yours sincerely,
Yellow

Bug#591233: /usr/bin/xset: After 5-10 minutes the monitors gets into standby FOREVER; cold power to reboot

2010-08-01 Thread yellow
Package: x11-xserver-utils
Version: 7.5+1+b1
Severity: important
File: /usr/bin/xset

Dear Sir,

I have 2.6.32-5-686 #1 SMP with a intel video card from my ASUS mother board;

after 5-10 minutes, when I watch a movie in fullscreen frm firefox as tv stream
, then
go the xset and all is finishes.

I use fvwm and xorg and no xscreensaver daemon

so xset does the job himself

Any ideas what could be wrong with that xset thing?
How to avoid xset to freeze the whole PC (well only monitor)

I can ssh still the box once xset made it headless

best regards

Bug#585067: keyboard-configuration: No alt+gr keys working after some time

2010-06-30 Thread yellow protoss
Dear Sir,

Regarding teh bug, since the issue remained, I recently bought a new
keyboard because of the non working altgr.

So I choosed a PS2, could manage to find one, logitech, for 50 euros.

And unfortunatley, the keyboard is not working either... so I am so sorry
about it. So the other one didnt work either, this altgr.

This means that I have 2 keyboards that arent working for this altgr.

I am considering teh fact that it is not the keyboard now itself.

Could it be X11 itself ?

I mean I am using JWM as windows manager on this computer, and visibly hte
altgr works when I am under TTY1,2,... when I press alt ctrl F1

best regards

thanks for the reply.

So I tried alomost everything, namely with :

.startup script : with setxkbmap us

and also
.startup script : without any setxkbmap and .startup script empty.

at the start of JWM.

It seems that it comes from X11 + JWM together ... I would suppose.

I assume that it is not coming from the layout but really a but in itself of
X11.

I tried all kind of layouts, and the TTY work flawless (no X). I guess it
has something to do with X.

Well there doesn't seem to be a bug in X here. If you're using a us

de(nodeadkeys) then don't set the keymap to us...

Well, I am not expert ni LINUX nor coder. So If you can be specific what you
require, I can surely provide it, and would be pleased to contribute.

Unfortunately I am not developer or coder, so if you inquire a command and
an output to be reported, I would surely do my best to do so.

I am sorry

The layout (xkbcomp output) you attached in this bug looked just fine,
it just wasn't a german layout. There's no evidence of a bug here, so
unless you can provide more details and something that makes some sense,
I'll close this bug. I don't know what you tried, I don't know your
desktop environment, and you don't seem to have even tried to provide
 coherent explanations.

As somewone who has actually used JWM I can say that this is an
environment for people who are more or less experienced and know how to
fix the bugs in their own configurations.

Julien provided you with a hint what you should look at: the 'setxkbmap
us' command in your startup script is not correct because you want a
 German layout.

I have been trying the 'setxkbmap us' , 'setxkbmap de' , and 'setxkbmap
fr' and changed with those 2 keyboards. It did not work at all and altgr
remains not working. I tried teh several reconfiguration of the X mapping. I
would say that it is a bug, as simply as that. I use debinan since many many
years. and in the stable edition, my keyboard was working fully. Never got
any problems

I agree with him that for now the best course of action would be to
 close this bug.

I do not understand why you would like to close the bug since the issue
remains and stable debian distro has workign keyboard:

I may quote:

I have been trying the 'setxkbmap us' , 'setxkbmap de' , and 'setxkbmap
fr' and changed with those 2 keyboards. It did not work at all and altgr
remains not working. I tried teh several reconfiguration of the X mapping. I

My advice for you is to either address some user
support forum/mailinglist and provide them with every detail of your
particular configuration, or to use some standard environment, such as
 Gnome or KDE.

I have never meet the issue under Debian Stable, previously installed on the
machine. I may suppose that it remains under X11 / JWM some further
investigations.

If you choose the second option, then first make sure you
have removed all your system-wide customizations in /etc and second,
create a new user and experiment with it.

I have several users , and all users have same issue.

My concern is why you would like to close the bug since the issue remains
and no solutions may be proposed or have working potential by dint of
trying. I bought a new keyboard, and the issue remains.

 Anton Zinoviev

Bug#581770: xserver-xorg-video-intel: No video with Intel and the ASUS P7H55-M Pro card for video

2010-05-16 Thread yellow protoss
Hi Julien,

I am trying to get the X working. That's for the moment still resulting into
error from the startx or the command X -configure to configure it. The
mother board is a ASUS P7H55-M Pro , which is quite new, and visibly not so
easy to run with Linux.

Bonne Dimanche.
Best regards / Best wishes

Bug#581686: xinit: xorg.conf is missing and not available

2010-05-14 Thread yellow
Package: xinit
Version: 1.2.0-1
Severity: important

Hello,

This is a fresh installation of debian on a descent and normal computer.

Apt-get install xdm xinit jwm
results in errors.

startx

Well to fix it, it is of no way because there is no xorg.conf anymore into
Debian.
Why are you changing all teh time the things that works under Linux?

So broken, no way to do dpkg-reconfigure even as before :(

What a damn sorry to see that Linux is changing all the time, making it
impossible to be understood by conventional humans.

Best regards
