Bug#176835: xserver-xfree86: debconf doesn't let you choose 1280x1024 for an LCD monitor
Package: xserver-xfree86 Version: 4.2.1-4 Severity: normal If you select LCD device as your monitor and 'Medium' for selecting the monitor characteristics, you cannot select 1280x1024 as a resolution, only 1280x960 and 1600x1200. This doesn't prevent you from using that mode. That's a different debconf question. Medium is just a way to help keep users from having to look up the horizontal sync and vertical refresh tolerances of their device. It doesn't in and of itself prevent you from using any modeline you want (unless you choose tolerance that are tighter than your hardware is actually capable of, but that can be true of Simple and Advanced as well). People have complained about this for years; I guess there really is no way to convince people to actually read the text of the debconf question. *The question asks what your monitor is CAPABLE OF, NOT what mode you want to use.* -- G. But from this perspective Severity: wishlist is ok. Bye, Matthias -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
