Bug#245021: xserver-xfree86: X crashes sometimes while i830 driver is loaded, leaves screen unusable and garbled
This problem seems to be completely fixed in the 3-4 most recent versions of XFree86 in unstable. It can probably be closed now. I haven't experienced the error in over a month. So far, I haven't noticed any crashes since I removed xlibmesa-dri. If there's anything else I can do, like reinstalling xlibmesa-dri, running gdb on something, waiting for a crash..., please let me know. If so, could you try removing that, but reinstalling xscreensaver-gl? I'm trying to determine if the crash is actually in the Mesa DRI module for your video chipset. -- G. Yes. A high percentage of all server crash reports we receive happen when xscreensaver is running. This is probably because the graphics engine is in a bad state and the the driver-specific LeaveVT() logic doesn't succeed in unscrewing it.
