Okay. I'm glad to hear that you're able to use your hardware in Debian in a more satisfactory way, but I am sorry that it's not currently possible with the free software in Debian unstable. For what it's worth, an updated "nv" driver (though not all the way up to XFree86 4.4.0) will be in 4.3.0.dfsg.1-7, and I've already got a report that it supports even more hardware than it claims too. You might get lucky with your Quadro FX 1100. -- G. I've finally been able to test the proprietary driver for amd64 and can report that it does support 1600x1200. Ryan

I downgraded for now due to local site reasons. I suspect you have encountered a few fundamental support problems in XFree86 4.3.0 nv driver. I think it may be supported by the XFree86 4.4.0 release candidate from which we can backport changes, but I don't know if there will be time to do this before Debian's xfree86 packages go into a freeze for the sarge release. (Technically, Debian's nv driver in our XFree86 packages is bit fresher than XFree86 4.3.0, but not as fresh as XFree86 4.4.0 RC 3.) Are you in a position to try NVIDIA's proprietary drivers? -- G. Bug#259812: xserver-xfree86: [nv] 1600x1200 pixelated on Quadro FX 1100
Package: xserver-xfree86 Version: 4.3.0.dfsg.1-5 Severity: normal On an IBM IntelliStation A Pro running debian-amd64 with a 20" LCD IBM L200P, X comes up very pixelated at 1600x1200. When I use xrandr to choose a lesser resolution, the picture becomes clear, but the display only uses a fraction of the monitor's screen. I will attach photographs of 1600x1200 and 1400x1050 to illustrate. I apologize in advance if the photos are too big. When using the vesa driver, the maximum resolution is 1280x1024 which uses the entire monitor's screen, but the picture is not clear as if it is not the native resolution. (Which for this 20" monitor, I believe it isn't.) When I used an analog cable with a DVI adapter, I couldn't get X to display properly at all, though I only went this route to see if the cable would solve it. (Sometimes using an analog cable produces better results than the DVI.) lspci: :09:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation: Unknown device 034e (rev a1) Also, I did try upgrading to 4.3.0.dfsg.1-6, but that did not solve the problem. I downgraded for now due to local site reasons. -- Package-specific info: Contents of /var/lib/xfree86/X.roster: xserver-xfree86 /etc/X11/X target unchanged from checksum in /var/lib/xfree86/X.md5sum.
