In reviewing your log file, I see no evidence that the resolutions weren't
"detected".

I *do* see evidence that the XFree86 X server configuration file,
/etc/X11/XF86Config-4, was not set up to use any modes other than 800x600
or 640x480.

Do you remember what method you used to configure your monitor?

resolutions higher than 800x600 are not available, even if known to be
supported by the monitor. On Red Hat or Knoppix
