Bug#309226: xnest: crashes when window is shaded or a different virtual desktop is selected

2010-11-17 Thread Julien Viard de Galbert
Hello,

About 5 to 3 years ago, you participated on a thread about xnest
crashing when minimizing or switching desktop.

I tested this with both gnome and fluxbox as host environment to run
Xnest with current sid and cound not reproduce the issue.
I'm using xnest version 2:1.7.7-9

So I'm planning to close this bug, but I would like some feedback first.

Can you tell me if the bug is fixed for you ?

Best Regards,

Bug#309226: xnest: crashes when window is shaded, or a different virtual desktop is selected

2007-05-21 Thread Andrew McDonnell

snipped

I can reproduce this as follows:

1. I'm running Debian Etch with PREEMPT enabled + KDM + fluxbox + Xorg

Info:
X Window System Version 7.1.1
Release Date: 12 May 2006
X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0, Release 7.1.1
Build Operating System: UNKNOWN
Current Operating System: Linux angel4-Etch 2.6.18-4-k7-amm-preempt #1
PREEMPT Sat May 19 14:59:57 CST 2007 i686
(**) | |--Device S3 Inc. 86c368 [Trio 3D/2X]

2. Execute the command:

xinit ~/.xinitrc-kde -- `which Xnest` :5 -name KDE -geometry 1024x768

3. Switch desktops a few times with the fluxbox pager

4. The nested X disappears

It also happens randomly when I use Xnest + XDMCP.

Output:

_XSERVTransSocketOpenCOTSServer: Unable to open socket for inet6
_XSERVTransOpen: transport open failed for inet6/angel4-Etch:5
_XSERVTransMakeAllCOTSServerListeners: failed to open listener for inet6

Bug#309226: xnest: crashes when window is shaded or a different virtual desktop is selected

2007-05-21 Thread Andrew McDonnell

I also have a workaround:

Make the Xnest main window 'sticky' (so it stays there on all desktops)
and the problem never happens.

Note that shading the window doesnt cause any problems provided it is sticky

This is a bit annoying but it works

As a workaround, could you try Xephyr instead of Xnest? Xephyr is
recommended nowadays, and seems to have less bugs.

I just installed xnest 2:1.1.1-19 and tried to reproduce the bug; it
looks like it's cleared up as near as I can tell.

I don't have an Etch box with a head on it to reproduce yet. Unfortunately I
can't really add any more than I put in the original bug report against
Sarge. If you've sucessfully managed to run Xnest for a few hours while
switching desktops in the course of normal use then I'd be happy for you to
close the bug.

Hi,

About 2 years ago, you reported (or replied to) a bug in the Debian BTS

desktop. I tried to reproduce with current Xorg 7.1 and Etch but I
couldn't. Did any of you guys reproduce this problem recently? If so,

Bug#309226: xnest: crashes when window is shaded or a different virtual desktop is selected

2005-05-15 Thread Marc Haber
Package: xnest
Version: 4.3.0.dfsg.1-13
Severity: normal

Hi,

when xnest has its window shaded, or the user switches to a different
virtual desktop, and the xnest window gets activity, xnest crashes:

|X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
| Major opcode of failed request: 73 (X_GetImage)
| Serial number of failed request: 12924
| Current serial number in output stream: 12924

I am prepared to debug under guidance.

Greetings
Marc
