I guess this can be closed, it runs very well using ati as driver
and having the dri module loaded.

It works fine without DRI! Just movie watching is impossible now :(

That may be due to
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=362755 .

 Hello

After upgrading and solving the already known bugs of an empty which X
by linking it to /usr/X11R6/bin/Xorg, I now end up with a crashing X
 server.

Even in X -probeonly, the server starts up and the screen gets black.
I can still hear an mp3 that I started on console, continuing playing so
the system itself is still running. Just the ATI driver seems to make
 problems.

Does this also happen if you don't enable the DRI?

I browsed /var/log/Xorg.0* but it only tells me the usuall information,
 no errors.

Still, it's impossible to deal with X server bugs without at least
complete config and log files.

Same here:

I upgrade my pb PowerBook5,6 to xorg 7.0. Running X with the radeon/ati
driver freezes the machine. No console, no ssh - hardreset :(

Running X via fbdev fails but doesn't freeze.
