Bug#428809: xserver-xorg-core: Add Conflicts: nvidia-glx (= 1.0.8776-4)

There must be a better solution?

Er, there is nvidia-glx-legacy-96xx exactly for your problem... And it has
the right nvidia_drv.so to work with the latest xorg.

I know the breakage of the nvidia proprietary driver is not a bug in
xorg, but the standard thing to do when your package breaks an other one
is to upload a new version that conflicts with broken versions of the
other one. Unless you do that, many more people will face this issue,
even when a new version of nvidia-glx enters testing. I am just not sure
about the exact versions with which it should conflict.

No, no, no!!! Please don't do that!!!

If you find out which version of nvidia-glx fixed the problem with
xorg-server 1.3, I'll add that conflict.

Cheers,
Julien

Quote from http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=420450

From: Chris Knadle
[...]
The release of nvidia-glx 1.0.9755-1 fixes this issue.

1.0.9755-1 is the first version of nvidia-glx uploaded (whether in
experimental or unstable) since the introduction of xserver 1.3.0 (both in
experimental and unstable) and it contains a nvidia_drv.so, so it seems
likely.

I guess you could forward the question to the nvidia-glx maintainer for
confirmation if you want (I can't find the versions of nvidia-glx between
1.0.8776-4 and 1.0.9755-1 to check).

Thank you for your help,
