Bug#444183: xserver-xorg-input-mouse: Vertical scrolling doesn't work anymore

2008-01-05 Thread Paul Menzel
Good evening,

 Now the mouse is
working again but the scrolling is not.

First I noticed, using Iceweasel and the scroll wheel, it would be going
backward or forward. After reading some pages on the Internet, I changed
ZAxisMapping to 4 and 5 and now it is working.

So sorry for bothering. I do not know why it worked some time ago.

Good night

2008-01-02 Thread Paul Menzel
Subject: Re: Bug#444183: xserver-xorg-input-mouse: Vertical scrolling doesn't

Followup-For: Bug #444183
Package: xserver-xorg-input-mouse
Version: 1:1.2.3-2

*** Please type your report below this line ***

A happy new year to everyone,

I had configured my mouse using the evdev driver. After an upgrade (some
lines from /var/log/aptitude

[AKTUALISIERUNG] xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:1.1.5-3 - 1:1.2.0-1
[AKTUALISIERUNG] xserver-xorg-input-kbd 1:1.2.0-1+1.2.1 - 1:1.2.2-3
[AKTUALISIERUNG] xserver-xorg-input-mouse 1:1.2.1-1 - 1:1.2.3-2 )

the mouse did not move, so I switched back to the mouse driver, which
worked before I switched to evdev probably a year back. Now the mouse is
working again but the scrolling is not. xev is reporting ButtonPress
events

ButtonPress event, serial 30, synthetic NO, window 0x201,
root 0x45, subw 0x0, time 23466740, (79,65), root:(650,578),
state 0x10, button 7, same_screen YES

ButtonRelease event, serial 30, synthetic NO, window 0x201,

ButtonPress event, serial 30, synthetic NO, window 0x201,
root 0x45, subw 0x0, time 23467995, (79,65), root:(650,578),
state 0x10, button 6, same_screen YES

ButtonRelease event, serial 30, synthetic NO, window 0x201,
root 0x45, subw 0x0, time 23467995, (79,65), root:(650,578),
state 0x10, button 6, same_screen YES

but it is not working neither in openbox nor GNOME.

I noticed, in the logs is written

(**) Option Buttons 7
(**) Option Emulate3Buttons true
(**) Configured Mouse: Emulate3Buttons, Emulate3Timeout: 50
(**) Option ZAxisMapping 6 7
(**) Configured Mouse: ZAxisMapping: buttons 6 and 7
(**) Configured Mouse: Buttons: 11
(**) Configured Mouse: Sensitivity: 1
(**) Option CorePointer

So in xorg.conf 7 buttons are configured, but the logs then set it to
11. I do not know why, but maybe it is on purpose.

I could not test 1.2.2-1

$ LOCALE=C sudo dpkg -i /tmp/xserver-xorg-input-mouse_1.2.2-1_i386.deb

I don’t know, why LOCALE=C did not give English output.

Thanks,

 Hi Luca,

Still the same problem with latest xserver-xorg-core 1.4.1 and
 xserver-xorg-input-mouse 1.2.3 from unstable?

Yes, unfortunately the problem isn't solved. Addicted to that, when i firstly
login the mouse doesn't move, but suspend-to-ram resume bring the mouse
back, but without scrolling.

 Brice

Thank you

Hi
upgrading to the latest version of this package breaks vertical
scrolling on my macbook. Downgrading to the 1.1.1-3 version fix that and
vertical scrolling works again.

Which latest version are you talking about? 1.2.2-6 in unstable? Did you
upgrade directly from Etch 1.1.1-3 to unstable? did you try 1:1.2.2-1
currently in testing?

Can you try 1:1.2.1-1 from

http://snapshot.debian.net/archive/2007/06/14/debian/pool/main/x/xserver-xorg-input-mouse/
or 1:1.1.2-1 from

http://snapshot.debian.net/archive/2007/04/17/debian/pool/main/x/xserver-xorg-input-mouse/

We also have bug #392864 where the horizontal wheel sometimes acts as a
vertical wheel, could be related...

Thanks,
Brice

Yes I've red it, and it could be related in fact. I prefered to file a new bug
because the problem is different, even if the component is the same.

 Thanks,
 Brice

Ok, I am ajusting the found tags of the bug then. The bug is actually
related to Xserver 1.4 then, since the source codes in input-mouse
1.2.2-1 and 1.2.2-6 are (almost) identical. That another input problem
in Xserver 1.4 then...
