I had the same problem.

I solved the problem by reinstalling my NVIDIA driver, from NVIDIA.com

My Xorg.log was complainging about the GLX module. I believe it has
something to do with a recently update of my Xorg core.

There's no such version of compiz in debian.
Can you send the Xorg.0.log from the crashed X server?

When I launch compiz from gnome it restarts my X server without any warning.
