then the Xorg driver has very little to do here and this sounds like a
different bug. (Sorry I never replied to your other bug submission)

I agree here.
If the touchpad is not listed in /proc/bus/input/devices then is't most
probably kernel related.
Did you notice anything suspicious in your kernel log?

Well, "not detecting the touchpad at all" would have been a better
description ;)

Sure, but I can anticipate that the touchpad isn't listed in that file.

This is the command I gave:

# apt-get install \
xserver-xorg-input-synaptics=0.14.7~git20070517-2 \
xserver-xorg-core=2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-12 \
xserver-xorg=1:7.2-5 \
xserver-xorg-video-intel=2:2.1.0-2 \
xserver-xorg-input-kbd=1:1.2.0-1+1.2.1 \
xserver-xorg-input-mouse=1:1.2.2-1 \
xserver-xorg-input-evdev=1:1.1.5-3

The driver worked, as reported in the "other" bug report (with the same title),
"some upgrades ago". I didn't report this previously, because I hoped it
would've been solved in the meanwhile.

I can't make the touchpad working now, even with the versions reported above. I
suspect it's something udev(?)-related, or, however, with hardware detection. :(

David

Hi,
Sorry not to have updated this.
I fixed it a long time ago... and forgot.

I simply did remove the line:
Option "AlwaysCore"
from the InputDevice section of /etc/X11/xorg.conf

So... more than a bug it seems to be a mistake in my config.

No ?

Laurent

Mattia, do you have an idea about this bug? It's currently one of the
few blockers for getting an updated X in testing.

You don't say which version works for you. You also didn't send your X
log. Please fix that (ideally with logs for both the working and
non-working versions).

Julien

Package: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
Version: 0.14.7~git20070706-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi,

I did just dist-upgrade my laptop running sid and did experience a
touchpad problem.

After rebooting, my touchpad no longer works.

If I plug a USB mouse, the USB mouse works fine (the touchpad is still
non-working).

I tried to downgrade the xserver-xorg-input-synaptics, restart gdm and
my touchpad is working again.
