Bug#461783: X.org segfaults all the time since last update

2008-03-31 Thread Amit Gurdasani
I can confirm that I've seen this with the 1.4.1 X server since that update.
It got annoying enough that I've now downgraded to Xorg 7.2 across the board
using snapshot.debian.net. There have been several Xkb issues. This crash
(bug #461783), the OpenOffice.org menus crashing X (bug #467058 etc.), as
well as getting the Alt and Super keys stuck (bug #462441) all have affected
me, and I got so fed up of it that I downgraded to 7.2. (I was also affected
by the keyboard LEDs no longer working with the initial release, bug
#440743 etc.) Xorg 7.3 has been a really junk release.

I hope the Xkb and keyboard driver people manage to get their act together
before the release of xserver 1.5.

Amit

I've seen this as recently as 2:1.4.1~git20080131-2, quite regularly,
once in two days to twice a day. Trying to use setxkbmap to reset the
keyboard layout causes the X server to instantly crash citing Xkb.

 Please consider applying this patch.

Maybe you should consider helping fixing bugs (or just calming down),
instead of just whining here, where you're just managing to annoy me,
and making it less likely that I'll work on including that patch any
faster.

Cheers,
Julien

Bug#461783: X.org segfaults all the time since last update

2008-01-20 Thread Matthias Berndt

Hi,
I'm running Sid here, and since the last update, X.org segfaults all the
time. This is the relevant entry from the dpkg log file:
2008-01-19 23:42:40 upgrade xserver-xorg-core 2:1.4.1~git20080105-1
2:1.4.1~git20080118-1
It segfaults when I log in to KDE, it segfaults when I
xauth generate :0 .
and it segfaults when I send it a SIGINT.

I've attached a stack trace from the xauth crash. The crashes all seem to
be the same, the stack traces look basically identical.

What looks very strange to me is that Xorg -version says
X.Org X Server 1.4.0.90
Shouldn't it be 1.4.1?

Can you try removing some Xkb configuration? I have seen 2 breakage with
the latest xserver-xorg-core that got fixed by cleaning the Xkb config
in xorg.conf or in the window manager. Does startx /usr/bin/xterm work
better than KDE?

What looks very strange to me is that Xorg -version says
 X.Org X Server 1.4.0.90
 Shouldn't it be 1.4.1?

Not yet, 1.4.1 isn't released yet.

Brice
