Do you still have the bug with latest X packages in testing/unstable?
Can you try upgrading to experimental?

Do you actually need DGA? Or are you just reporting a regression? I've
seen one other person report a similar problem on ATI hardware, but he
didn't care about DGA in the end.

Please the output file of "/usr/share/bug/xserver-xorg/script 3> file"

After upgrading all xserver-xorg* packages (they all seem to have
different version numbers, so I reported the version from the xserver-xorg
package) in testing today, a first run of xawtv runs fine.

After quitting and starting a subsequent time, it fails with:

$ xawtv
This is xawtv-3.95.dfsg.1, running on Linux/i686 (2.6.24-1-686)

xinerama 1: 1680x1050+0+0
