Bug#610492: xserver-xorg-video-ati: X server crashes when using direct rendering ...

2011-04-24 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Hi,

koof...@fastmail.fm koof...@fastmail.fm (23/04/2011):
Anything clues on this bug? Any testing I can do to help?

you could check with mesa packages from sid, or even build mesa from
upstream master. There are some explanations there, but there are
radeon-related tweaks needed (check options/supported drivers):

  http://pkg-xorg.alioth.debian.org/howto/build-mesa.html

To get a full backtrace, which might help:

  http://pkg-xorg.alioth.debian.org/howto/use-gdb.html

And if mesa master is also affected:

  http://bugs.freedesktop.org/

Anyway, it's unlikely to be the same issue as the original one, so
please file a new bug instead.

KiBi.

Bug#610492: xserver-xorg-video-ati: X server crashes when using direct rendering ...

2011-04-23 Thread koofoss
Hi,

I'm using debian testing and upgraded my packages this morning and
found exactly the same problem as described by the original bug
report. Running glxinfo shows I'm supposed to have direct rendering:

--8--
[./~] glxinfo | head
name of display: :0
display: :0 screen: 0
direct rendering: Yes
server glx vendor string: SGI
server glx version string: 1.4
server glx extensions:
GLX_ARB_multisample, GLX_EXT_import_context,
GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap,
GLX_EXT_visual_info, GLX_EXT_visual_rating,
GLX_MESA_copy_sub_buffer,
GLX_OML_swap_method, GLX_SGI_make_current_read,
GLX_SGI_swap_control,
GLX_SGIS_multisample, GLX_SGIX_fbconfig, GLX_SGIX_pbuffer,
--

But when I run an application that requires direct rendering (e.g.
glxinfo or mplayer) the screen goes black/blue (whatever the screen
background I suppose) and whole system freezes (keyboard caps-lock LED
stops responding) and I have to hard reset using the reset button.

A whole load of packages got updated this morning (it's been a few
weeks since I updated/upgraded my packages) so I don't know what
could've broken the system but I do remember that before the update
the kernel was linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64, after the upgrade it's
linux-image-2.6.38-2-amd64 (I still have my aptitude logs though)!

Anything clues on this bug? Any testing I can do to help?

Thanks.
