;-) Everything works fine. Scrolling, two and three finger tapping work
flawlessly.

Thanks a lot. Kind regards,

Hi Cyril,

Works for me too but I'm only able to test edge scrolling. That's why
I used 'seems' because two fingers scrolling is also affected
according to the upstream bug report and I can't confirm that.

2012-04-23 Thread phil colbourn
I attempted a git bisect.

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46617

I'm new to this so I may not be correct. This it the patch that introduced
this behaviour for me.

phil@min:~/Development/synaptics.git$ git bisect good

cddab79c408db3b13905a2be72aff4f7bf1406f8 is the first bad commit
commit cddab79c408db3b13905a2be72aff4f7bf1406f8
Author: Peter Hutterer
Date: Thu Mar 1 16:27:01 2012 +1000

Fix scoll increment for non-smooth scrolling (#46617)

Introduced in 2603ad69b997c999404ecc441e0d64ea2cc22018. Previously, the
delta was incremented by (actual delta/scroll dist), button clicks where
then sent while (delta-- >= 1).

After 2603ad69b997c999404ecc441e0d64ea2cc22018, the delta was
incremented by
the delta only, scroll dist was used as increment in the smooth
scrolling
information. On non-smooth-scrolling servers, the driver would now send
too many events. Restore the old behaviour by dividing by the scroll
distance before entering the button click loop.

Yeah, I wasn't convinced it was fixing anything here, but we might have been
lucky.

FWIW, still no better using upstream 1.5.99.903.

Also affects my ASUS 1015PE. Two-finger-tapping and three-finger-tapping
are still working though. Apparently, scrolling is now only working if you
do a fast swipe, as opposed to the previous version behaviour where
doing precision scrolling by moving the fingers a few milimiters worked.

2012-04-03 Thread Dario Alessio Menin
I've found a partial workaround (the old version still behaves better), I
don't know if it could be useful to find the problem: In KDE System
Settings -> Input Devices -> Touchpad -> scrolling -> Move distance to
scroll a single line -> set to 25-30. On my machine the touchpad returned
partially functional, scrolling at a slow speed remains very difficult.

Hi everyone,

just a "me, too" report. Upgrading -> dead, downgrading -> works,
reliable.

It seems to me that the xserver is probing the device two times, once
it detects it properly, the second time there is a problem. But
this is just wild guessing from my reading of the log file.

Thanks

Bug#665004: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics: scrolling stopped working after upgrade 1.5.0 --> 1.5.99

2012-03-24 Thread Matteo Aquilano

Same issue for me in Elantech touchpad.
Probably the new features "HorizHysteresis" and "VertHysteresis", added with
1.5.99.901-1 version, cause the issue.
Setting "VertHysteresis" and "HorizHysteresis" to "0" don't have effects.
The scrolling is very unusable.
I don't know how investigate more.

Best regards.Matteo.

Bug#665004: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics: scrolling stopped working after upgrade 1.5.0 --> 1.5.99

2012-03-24 Thread Michael Buesch
Package: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
Followup-For: Bug #665004

Dear Maintainer,

I can confirm this bug on my Asus EeePC 1011px.
Downgrading xserver-xorg-input-synaptics to 1.5.0 fixes the issue.
With latest 1.5.99, touchpad scrolling is completely broken.

Greetings, Michael.

Bug#665004: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics: scrolling stopped working after upgrade 1.5.0 --> 1.5.99

2012-03-22 Thread Klaus Doering
Package: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
Version: 1.5.99.901-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

Upgrading from version 1.5.0-2 to 1.5.99.901-1 has rendered the scrolling
functions (both, horizontal and vertical) unusable. Downgrading to
1.5.0 restores function completely, re-upgrading results in the loss
of function (again). Booting into older kernel (version 3.2.0-1) has
no effect.

All that said, the scrolling is not completely dead, as sometimes
(more pressure? further into the right edge of the pad? I found no
proper correlation.) it makes a few jumps. Hence the word "unusable".

Comparing the output of synclient -l gives no clue (to me at least):

$ diff synclient-output_1.5.0.txt synclient-output_1.5.99.txt
65a66,68
> HorizHysteresis = 27
> VertHysteresis = 27
> ClickPad= 0

Hardware: Acer Travelmate 8571

Kind regards
Klaus
