Bug#683695: libdrm-nouveau1a: when using Nvidia Gtx 550 Ti card boot stops at populating /dev

control: retitle -1 nouveau needs patches backported from 3.4 to
support GTX 550 Ti cards
control: severity -1 important

Kernel 3.4 apparently brings support for this particular card. This
kernel bug report seems to be the most related (although not
specifically this problem) and mentions specific patches:
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42869

Downgrading severity since there are options like nomodeset to get around this.

Best wishes,
Mike

Flaming is somewhat less prevalent in debian nowadays, so please try
 to not worry about that.

Would you mind at least trying the 3.5 kernel from the experimental
repository so we can confirm that would be a solution to the problem?

 Thanks,
 Mike

Try some of the troubleshooting steps?

Also, supposedly fixed in kernel 3.4, and I saw a note somewhere
mentioning the commits needed, so if you're really adventurous, you
could try to identify those and request the kernel team apply them to
 support your hardware.

Can you try adding nouveau.tv_disable=1 to your kernel command line?
 As suggested by:

Bug#683695:

2012-08-27 Thread Kees de Jong
I can confirm this bug. Yesterday I installed Debian on my media
center and after rebooting it was stuck on Nouveau.
The error on my screen was as follows:

Waiting for /dev to be fully populated...[ 5.053243] Error: Driver
'pcspkr' is already registred, aborting...
6.566243] [drm] nouveau :01:00.0: illegal object class: 0x902d

Kind regards,
Kees

By the way I can't type anything, so I can't give you any logs. I have
a nVidia GT610.
