I have the XtMakeGeometry errors with xf86cfg too (when trying to change
the keyboard type). Isn't xf86cfg contained in the XFree86 upstream
sources? If so, it's definitely a problem in the XFree86 sources directly.

and unfortunately not only anthena programms suffer, ie. netscape breaks
too
(try dragging a link from one netscape window to another, normaly the
link
would be opend in the new window but now netscape just quits..
- it doesn´t show the message, but a strace shows that it tried to
display the
error message)

i guess the most programms which trigger XtMakeGeometry errors like gv,
etc
could fixed (easyly or not..) but for netscape i wouldn't hold breath :(

I tried overwriting the libXt.so.6.0 file from the Xbin.tgz archive, and
that did resolve my XtMakeGeometry errors. Thanks for that wonderful
suggestion. :-)

I downloaded the 4.0.1 binaries from

Ah, ok. that makes sense. I'll run the upgrade and try replacing that
nasty little file.

Um, are these just out of date binaries? What is the status of the
actual code in CVS?

Actually, you only need to pull out libXt.so.6.0 from the Xbin.tgz
file and replace it for the current broken version to fix the
XtMakeGeometry problem. That is much less intrusive that overwriting
the entire X setup.
