Turning the video output on and off

Hi!

Some video switches can sense the video output to decide when to switch
between different displays.

1) Is it possible to turn video output of display on and off in X. 
2) Is it possible to turn video output of specific screen of the display on and off in 
X.

I believe that some screen savers do so.

If you want to do this from the command line, man xset and look for
dpms stuff.
