Tried something similar years ago. Doesn't work, because there is no way to escape newlines within a debconf command stream[1], and since you obviously cannot store everyone's lspci output literally in the template, you have to use db_subst to put it there. A perusal of the xserver-xfree86 "config" maintainer script reveals where I attempted to do this, and has comments repeating the above information -- even today. But, I forgot...no one actually reads my maintainer scripts or thinks I have the first clue about these things. :-P [1] no way that I know of, anyway... -- G. Xfree-4.3 Experimental packages, xlibmesa-glu
On the system there are installed ii xlibmesa3-glu 4.2.1-6Mesa OpenGL utility library [XFree86] which aren't superceeded by the 4.3 version ones... by now one has to force-remove the old one and install the new one. I think it's a naming problem because of the 3 in the name of the old version? Willi

Wouldn't it be usefull, to add the output of 'lspci |grep VGA' to the pci-ID selection dialog? Great work though. thanks ;) Willi
XFree 4.3 experimental packages
* The driver selection dialog is missing Radeon, though -rw-r--r--1 root root 127544 Aug 18 21:42 /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/radeon_drv.o exist, and belongs to dpkg -S /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/radeon_drv.o xserver-xfree86: /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/radeon_drv.o * The list of available display modes lacks the New W-XGA modes of dell Notebooks (i.e. 1680x1050) (pherhaps an add own one selector would be ok?) * The ability to configure a Second mouse would be apreciatable, as many notebooks have internal ps/2 mouses, and one wants to hook up an usb mouse, which would end up in having two devices (/dev/misc/psaux; /dev/input/mice) to collect mousing stuff from... (I think I should have a closer look to that) * The ability of adding card specific driver stuff would allso be nice, for all the cards supporting TV out, Hardware mousecursoroptions etc. (I might have a closer look at this too...) Kind Regards Wilfried Goesgens -
