well, it does work here too, both in a window and in full-screen mode.
It's just that it pops up a window which shows the message below, so I
guess there must be some accelerated DGA which I could benefit from.

Do you use XFree86 4.x and is your Matrox in this server accelerated ?
Did you load the extmod module which includes the DGA extension ?

Vmware 2.0.3 works fine on my Woody system, full screen and in a window. I
didn't have to do anything to my X configuration to get it working either.

I've got Matrox G200 and I'm using the 2.4.0test10 kernel with DRM/DRI.

What does the log say?

I think this boils down to a fairly simple explanation -- version
mismatch. vmware supports one version of DGA, which is also supported by
xf86 3.3.x, but xf86 4.0.x supports a different version of DGA.

Or, at least, this is how I understand the situation. :-/
