Bug#1078587: libdrm-intel1: A huge ------------[ cut here ]------------ warning in dmesg

2024-08-12 Thread Renan W. Prado
Package: libdrm-intel1
Version: 2.4.114-1+b1
Severity: normal
X-Debbugs-Cc: renanwillianpr...@gmail.com

Dear Maintainer,

I am seeing some WARNINGS on my dmesg logs for about two months, and can't see
any way to work around this problem. I suppose that it has to do with libdrm-
intel1, but I am not even sure, since the error does not say from what package
exacly the error comes. There is a way to fix this problem?

Bug#1022006: Info received (Bug#1022006: Acknowledgement (New version fixes a warning))

2023-07-20 Thread Bjarni Ingi Gislason
This was a one time without the similar output in the first e-mail.
So the behaviour is unchanged. Happens after this sequence of commands:

xinit &
firefox-esr
einstein
exit (from einstein)
exit (from twm)
[pushing the return key returns to the shell]

Bug#1009995: x11-xkb-utils: xkbcomp gives a warning for keysym XF86EmojiPicker from symbols/inet

2022-04-21 Thread Timo Aaltonen

Vincent Lefevre kirjoitti 22.4.2022 klo 5.00:

Package: x11-xkb-utils
Version: 7.7+6
Severity: normal

Consider

zira:~> cat .xkb/keymap/test
xkb_keymap {
 xkb_keycodes  { include "evdev+aliases(qwerty)" };
 xkb_types { include "complete"  };
 xkb_compat{ include "complete"  };
 xkb_symbols   { include "pc+gb+inet(evdev)" };
 xkb_geometry  { include "pc(pc105)" };
};

(the "+inet(evdev)" is important).

I get the following warning:

zira:~> xkbcomp -w 0 -I$HOME/.xkb -R$HOME/.xkb keymap/test xkb.dump
Warning: Could not resolve keysym XF86EmojiPicker

The issue probably comes from

zira:~> grep -r XF86EmojiPicker /usr/share/X11/xkb
/usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/inet: key{ [ XF86EmojiPicker
 ] }; // KEY_EMOJI_PICKER

This file is provided by xkb-data (current version 2.35.1-1).
So there's something wrong between x11-xkb-utils and xkb-data
(similar to bug 953032 / 994036).

Note: about the fact that I get this warning with "-w 0" is
the following bug, which I've just reported:
   https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/app/xkbcomp/-/issues/20
   https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1009994

Once this bug is fixed, this could be tested without the "-w 0".

Before 7.7+6 you'd get an error instead of a warning, and the warning
isn't going away until x11proto is updated and libx11 built against it.
But these warnings happen when stuff gets updated independently, so I
don't consider it a bug.

So there's something wrong between x11-xkb-utils and xkb-data
(similar to bug 953032 / 994036).

Note: about the fact that I get this warning with "-w 0" is
the following bug, which I've just reported:
  https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/app/xkbcomp/-/issues/20
  https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1009994

Once this bug is fixed, this could be tested without the "-w 0".

[Git][xorg-team/lib/libinput][upstream-unstable] 3 commits: evdev: reduce the "your system is slow" warning to 5 per hour

evdev: reduce the "your system is slow" warning to 5 per hour

Two cases where this can happen: system is currently slow and delaying events,
n which case we'll get a burst and it'll show up in the log files
anyway. Or
the system is generally slow and we get these warnings all the time. In the
latter case, let's not spam the log.

Dear Maintainer,

I notice that in xterm 348 (vs 337), I am seeing the following warning when
starting xterm from a shell:

| xterm: Unrecognized keyword: never

This is being caused by the following resource setting:

XTerm*fullscreen: never

and additionally, the resource is not having any effect (fullscreen is not being
inhibited).

I looked briefly at the v348 source and it seemed that "never" is still intended
as a supported value.

thank you,
Greg

   * Update patch 900_debian_xterm.diff:
 - Disable "rep" in xterm-new and derived terminfo descriptions
   (see #933053).
 - Stop disabling rmm and smm. Apparently this is no longer needed,
and since xterm 331 the wrong terminfo entry had been patched anyway.
   * Convert the patch header of 900_debian_xterm.diff to DEP-3, and add
headers to the patches 902_windowops.diff and 904_fontops.diff.
   * Cherry-pick a patch from upstream snapshot 348a: fix loop-limit for
lookup of fullscreen resource broken in xterm 347 (report by
 Scott Bertilson, Closes: #934717).
   * Remove debian/NEWS, last updated nine years ago in xterm 259-1.

Actually broken in #347. Someone reported it a few weeks ago, and I commited
a fix (there's some other items to do for #349, but I'm working on lynx now).

Dear Maintainer,

While using Xephyr to test the Awesome window manager, I encountered a
warning message regarding the server's resources:

"This may be caused my a misbehaving driver monopolizing the server's
resources."

The message contains a typographical error.

I expected to read:

"This may be caused by a misbehaving driver monopolizing the server's
resources."

I have provided a patch regarding this issue.

Thanks for your concern.

Best regards.

Bug#726041: xserver-xephyr: Typographical error in warning message regarding server's resources

2013-10-11 Thread Vincent Hobeïka
Package: xserver-xephyr
Version: 2:1.12.4-6
Severity: minor

Dear Maintainer,

While using Xephyr to test the Awesome window manager, I encountered a
warning message regarding the server's resources:

"This may be caused my a misbehaving driver monopolizing the server's
resources."

The message contains a typographical error.

I expected to read:

"This may be caused by a misbehaving driver monopolizing the server's
resources."

I have provided a patch regarding this issue.

Thanks for your concern.

Best regards.

The build can be massively parallel, don't worry. I'm building it all
the time with -j12, and all my cores are busy. That warning probably
only happens at some level where it doesn't actually matter much.

2011-08-12 Thread Fabio
I noticed that build logs of mesa (e.g. https://buildd.debian.org/status/fetch.
php?pkg=mesa&arch=i386&ver=7.11~0-2&stamp=1308862274 ) show these warnings:
make[1]: warning: jobserver unavailable: using -j1. Add `+' to parent make

Is there a way to fix them and enable parallel buildings?

Sorry I should have mentioned that the reasons I posted the header files
here instead of upstream was

1. Debian prefers to be the first point of call for bugs
2. I can't log in to freedesktop.org, however many times I go through
the "forgot password" route

If someone could ping them about me not being able to log in, that would

Is hardware OpenVg completely borked with Intel graphics drivers?

I'm afraid so; OpenVG is only available for Gallium drivers, so for now
the only hope would be for older chipsets supported by the i915g driver.

So, should this bug be redirected tolibdrm-intel1?
I've got version 1.4.26-1 (testing) installed.

Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.3.2-2
Severity: important

Seemingly at random, and infrequently, X will crash and I will often lose all
open work. After a number of attempts to automatically restart I will be given a
message saying that X has crashed and cannot be restarted. Switching to a
different terminal killing all Xsessions and GDM and attempting to restart them
does not work. A reboot is seemingly required.

Adding the option "NoDRI" to xorg.conf appears to prevent this from happening?
This is not a good option for me as suspend/resume does not work with this
option enabled.

It occurs infrequently, perhaps once every 30 or 40 hours of use, and I have
been unable to find any pattern. I believe iceweasel has been open for all
crashes, though this has occured over an upgrade to version 3.0, and has also
persisted over recent updates to xorg and the intel driver.

The xorg.log seems to contain a relevant and hopefully useful error at the end
of the log.

I set the severity to important because it currently causes a loss of data.

Please advise if I can provide more information. Reportbug was not working for
me and I have filed this manually.

Below you will find my xorg.log, xorg.conf, kernel version, libc version. I am
running Lenny.

Regards,
AA

Description: scalable fonts for X
xfonts-scalable provides fonts that can be drawn at any size by the X server
or font server without loss of quality. In most cases
it is desirable to have the X font server (xfs) and/or an X server installed
to make the fonts available to X clients.

This package is missing three fonts from the X.Org source archives because
the license terms on the fonts do not meet the Debian
Free Software Guidelines; they are the Type1 fonts Adobe Utopia, IBM Courier,
and Bigelow & Holmes (B&H) Luxi.

This package requires the xutils package to prepare the font directories for
use by an X server or X font server.

Bug#491205: xserver-xorg-video-intel causes X to crash irrecoverably and without, warning (fatal server error: lockup)

2009-08-31 Thread Grigory Koshcheev

Try the patch available here:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19643

I had rebuild package xserver-xorg-core with this patch, but there is no
effect. After 30 minutes of work new crash happened.

I found out that this problem is not with Firefox (Iceweasel). I watched
the crash including when firefox was not running.

If I do not find solutions in the near future I will be compelled to
migrate to another distro, because I lose data on each crash.

Best regards, Grigory Koshcheev

Try the patch available here:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19643

With that X.Org has been 100% stable for me.

Cheers,

Bug#491205: xserver-xorg-video-intel causes X to crash irrecoverably and without, warning (fatal server error: lockup)

2009-08-28 Thread Grigory Koshcheev
I have the same problem for a long time. X crashes once at the month and
I didn't think that it is great problem. For a last week X crashes every
day, sometimes twice and more.

Can I do something to help fix this problem?

Best regards, Grigory Koshcheev

Bug#542900: warning: /etc/X11/fonts/X11R7/Type1 does not exist or is not a directory

2009-08-21 Thread Arthur Marsh
Package: libxfont1
Version: 1:1.4.0-2
Severity: normal

After upgrading libxfont1 and installing xfonts-scalable I am getting the
following:

warning: /etc/X11/fonts/X11R7/Type1 does not exist or is not a directory

However, searching packages.debian.org did not reveal any matches on
"/etc/X11/fonts/X11R7"

Should this warning still be appearing, or should it be a "notice:"?

Arthur.

Hi,

I'm seeing this:
Unpacking libx11-6 (from .../libx11-6_2%3a1.2.1-1_amd64.deb) ...
dpkg: warning: obsolete option '--print-installation-architecture', please use
'--print-architecture' instead.

I'm seeing this in almost every build log, and sbuild is sending
me a separate mail with those warnings. So I would like it that
that this gets fixed soon.

This was fixed with the xsfbs merge in the last upload. Thanks for
reporting it.

xfonts-scalable provides fonts that can be drawn at any size by the X server
or font server without loss of quality.

Regards,
AA

I've not actually seen the crash as I described it in
http://bugs.debian.org/491205#10
anymore, though I do still have occasional (though very infrequent) total
lockups of the X server. So I'll give this a try anyway. But the chance
that I can report any meaningful results is close to zero.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Cheers,
FJP

Bug#491205: xserver-xorg-video-intel causes X to crash irrecoverably and without warning (fatal server error: lockup)

2008-11-17 Thread Tino Keitel
Hi,

you might try if the lockups go away if you put this line into the
device section of /etc/X11/xorg.conf:

Option "FramebufferCompression" "off"

If it solves the problem, then you are hit by a bug that is solved in
version 2.4 of the intel driver.

Tino

Bug#491205: xserver-xorg-video-intel causes X to crash irrecoverably and without warning

2008-10-17 Thread Peter Dey
I experience the same symptoms on a Q33 chipset (X3100), too. X crashes saying
"fatal server error: lockup", th edisplay looks corrupt, then I'm booted back
to
a console. I can't restart X, and can only do so after a reboot.

However, I have been able to semi-reliably reproduce the problem using the
'osd_cat' program. It doesn't crash *consistently*, but does crash say, 5
times
out of 10.

Cheers,
Peter

Bug#491205: xserver-xorg-video-intel causes X to crash irrecoverably and without warning (fatal server error: lockup)

2008-07-18 Thread Arthur A

Sadly, the proposed work-around did not work.

I've included my xorg.conf, xorg.0.log and gdm.log

I'd be willing to try to No DRI option workaround again, however, I think that
one reason it maybe appears to work is because I'm able to frequently reboot my
machine, as opposed to standby and resume, which I've done about six times since
implementing the proposed workaround.

This time I can tell you my running apps. I was running transmission downloading
a torrent, iceweasel 3.0 streaming flash using the beta flash plugin, and synaptic

Many thanks,
AA

Bug#491205: xserver-xorg-video-intel causes X to crash irrecoverably and without warning (fatal server error: lockup)

The problem is is knowing if it makes any difference or not because the
actual crash is so hard to reproduce. Personally I think I'd prefer to
wait for another occurrence and see if I can get logs that time. Or some
better idea of what triggers it.

Is there a way to make X.Org save more that 1 old version of its logs?

Cheers,

I've already made the recommended change. Knowing if it works isn't too hard,
it's just time consuming. It reliably crashes at least once per week. If I go a
week without crashing then I for one will consider the workaround successful.

I've already got strong suspicions that Option "NoDRI" prevents it from
occurring, but as mentioned this leads to standby/resume problems.

In any event, assuming it doesn't crash before then I will report back in a week
to let you know if the workaround is successful.

Regards,
AA

restarted. Switching to a different terminal killing all Xsessions and
GDM and attempting to restart them does not work. A reboot is seemingly
required.

I've had the exact same problem twice in the past week or two (as already
mentioned FYI in an unrelated BR). I'm using KDE/kdm, so it can't be the
desktop environment.

What I saw was lots of mode switching of the monitor and various
semi-random patterns displayed between (I assume) restart attempts.

Only option I've had is forcing a semi-clean reboot using the power button
of the system. I've not seen any messages that X crashed (except in the
logs after rebooting).

I'd been waiting for another repeat and more concrete info before filing a
report, but seeing this pass by I thought to at least let you know that
it's not a one-off problem.
I think it may be somehow related to console switching, but that's only a
vague feeling.

Attaching current config and current Xorg log (not from crash).

Cheers,
FJP

Yes, this describes what I've seen as well. The screen suddenly switches to all
black with a thin bar along the top of scrambled colours, then complete black
and lots of flickers which look just like when booting up the computer and it
attempts to bring X up.

The user does
# dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
He answer tons of questions, and when he finish, he sees
xserver-xorg postinst warning: not updating /etc/X11/X; file has been customized

Which sounds very much like he did all that typing for nothing. Maybe
you want to say "link to /etc/X11/X has been customized". Anyway, be
sure to say something positive first, about something getting saved,
else it looks like one big failure to the user.

Hi,

Upgrading xserver-xorg produced the following message:

Setting up xserver-xorg (7.0.16) ...
xserver-xorg postinst warning: /etc/X11/xorg.conf has been customized, but we
need to make
updates. Backing up your config to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.20060504121741. If we
screw something up,
   restore using this file.

But

# diff -u /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.20060504121741
#

So either

- there was no need to update anything, therefore no message should have
  been printed, or
- updating xorg.conf have failed for some reason that is not displayed.

Yes, the xorg.conf generation code is known to not be very good... We have
several bugs related to this, I am merging with them. Some issues might be
avoided soon thanks to the server autoconfiguration, the postinst script
is being cleaned up a lot.

When starting for example xterm of gv, I get error messages like:

Warning: Color name "black" is not defined
Warning: Color name "AntiqueWhite3" is not defined
Warning: Color name "AntiqueWhite2" is not defined
Warning: Color name "AntiqueWhite4" is not defined
Warning: Color name "gray65" is not defined

Warning: Color name "red" is not defined
Warning: Color name "White" is not defined
Warning: Color name "white" is not defined
Warning: Color name "gray58" is not defined

because these colors are defined in rgb.txt, which is part of x11-common, I
figured this is a X11-common bug.

This looks like an Xserver crash, not a GDM bug. This bug will get more
attention if you discuss with the Xorg team or with your distro since the
problem might be with your distros Xorg configuration.

Interesting diagnosis. I actually thought about Xorg or Debian If you have some
specific pointers as to the urls @ XORG and or Debian...please send them on.
The log above is from /var/log/gdm. You are probably right... GDM may be
crashing because of Xorg. I would't think a keymap could casue a server crash,
I have been wrong before.

When a users password is expiring soon and pam issues a warning

Hi,

About 5 years ago, you reported a bug to the Debian BTS regarding xdm
logging failure when user passwd is expiring soon. Did you reproduce
this problem recently? With Xorg/Etch? If not, I will close this bug in
the next weeks.

Thanks,
