Bug#975298: Xfce 4.14 5 seconds for the first click on the "Applications" button

2020-11-20 Thread Сергей Фёдоров

Package: xfce4
Version: 4.14
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Dear Maintainer,

In Xfce 4.14, the response time to the first click on the "Applications" button
takes 5 seconds. Subsequent clicks are triggered instantly. In Xfce 4.12,
the first click is triggered instantly.

Bug#974682: xfce4: No GTK 2.0 in Default Xfce 4.14 theme

2020-11-13 Thread Marco
Package: xfce4
Version: 4.14
Severity: minor

   * What led up to the situation?

I changed the default theme for a moment, then I couldn't come back to the
previous GTK 3.0 theme, because there's no option for it, since all themes that
only have a GTK 2.0 rc file are not available for selection any more.

I managed to work around it editing the xsettings.xml file and deleting all GTK
3.0 themes

I left this line like so:

In ~/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xsettings.xml

Restarted to the session and got the default theme back. However, this Default
theme had no GTK 2.0 folder, so I copied the one that's on
/usr/share/themes/Xfce/ and everything went back to normal.

I still can't select the Default theme in the Apparience Menu.

It would be ideal to add a Default entry in this menu, that combines the
default GTK 3.0 theme, and the default Xfce GTK 2.0 theme (for GTK 2.0
applications).

Thank you for your time.

2020-05-04 Thread Sławomir Wójcik
Sorry for the delay, I've backported missing packages from goodies and
also pushed

buster-backports branches to https://salsa.debian.org/users/Valdaer/projects
(I can't create merge requests in the Xfce main repos because these are new
branches not meant to merge to existing ones). These were made from
appropriate
tags and as I've said earlier I hadn't need to made any changes/patches
except

changelog entries generated by dch --bpo.

As a reminder backported packages are on debian.mentors here:
https://mentors.debian.net/packages/uploader/valdaer%40gmail.com

So I don't know what now, can you give me at least temporary push access
for new
branches in Xfce main repos? Or maybe one of you will push these
branches from

https://salsa.debian.org/users/Valdaer/projects to
https://salsa.debian.org/xfce-team ?

Hi Alexander and Slawomir and team,

that's great news. As you may have understdood, I'm quite overwhelmed these
days and can't really maintain an active workflow on Xfce, and especially not
on backports.

If someone wants to do it (or has already done it) it's great, but I'd prefer
it to be done inside the team so things can be shared. You should be able to
propose merge requests for the work you did and we can take a look (Unit 193 /
Mateusz could you take it?).

Something which would be really nice as well is to look at bugs affecting
Stable and try to see if they're fixed in unstable and in the backports.

Regards, and again thanks for your work!

Xfce 4.14 backport to debian buster

2020-04-07 Thread Valdaer Anom
Hello,

I've backported most of the Xfce 4.14 packages to debian buster(uploaded to
debian.mentors:
https://mentors.debian.net/packages/uploader/valdaer%40gmail.com),
had been using these for more than a couple of days and these have been
working
very well so far. I've seen on reddit and some other forums that some debian
users would want to use Xfce 4.14 on debian stable so maybe it is worth to
upload
these to debian-backports. I could track these packages for newer versions
in
backports and maybe in future I could help in packaging/maintenance of Xfce
debian packages.

I have some knowledge in debian packaging, I have my small private repo and
I've been backporting and packaging some packages(some from Xfce too) over
the past few years. These debian.mentors uploaded packages
(https://mentors.debian.net/packages/uploader/valdaer%40gmail.com) were
built by
gbp buildpackage with sbuild builder on debian buster created schroot from
https://salsa.debian.org/xfce-team repos with appropriate tags, I have
local git
branches however there weren't any patches/changes needed and there only are
changelog entries generated by dch --bpo.

Please reply if you are interested, and if yes let me know which packages
are
missing or already outdated. I've backported all packages which had newer
version in testing from https://salsa.debian.org/xfce-team/desktop,
https://salsa.debian.org/xfce-team/apps and most from the
https://salsa.debian.org/xfce-team/goodies. Also when these packages will be
ready to be accepted to debian-backports please let me know what is in your
opinion best way to upload these. Will one of you reupload it? or can you
give
me debian maintainer rights(at least temporary if it's possible)? I've read
about processes for new maintainers but it's not that clear to me.

I'm not sure this topic shouldn't be on the debian-backports mailing list
too
but even on backports page contribution section there is info to contact
concrete package maintainers/teams first.

Regards,
Sławomir Wójcik

In the terminal window, in the output of the "env" command, I found the line:
   XDG_DATA_DIRS=/usr/share/xfce4:/usr/local/share/:/usr/share/:/usr/share/

It made me think.
In "/usr/bin/startxfce4" in the block

   if test "x$XDG_DATA_DIRS" = "x"
   then
 if test "x/usr/share" = "x/usr/local/share" -o "x/usr/share" =
"x/usr/share"; then

 else
   XDG_DATA_DIRS="/usr/share:/usr/local/share:/usr/share"
 fi
   else
 XDG_DATA_DIRS="$XDG_DATA_DIRS:/usr/share"
   fi

excluded duplication for XDG_DATA_DIRS - line
   XDG_DATA_DIRS="/usr/share:/usr/local/share:/usr/share"
replaced by
   XDG_DATA_DIRS="/usr/share:/usr/local/share"

This did not solve the problem.
Commenting a line:
   XDG_DATA_DIRS="$XDG_DATA_DIRS:/usr/share"
after “else”, the “Login” window reappears to enter Debian and there is no way
out of this cycle.

Installing Debian 10.1 on another blank disk from scratch will repeat the
situation:
   Duplicate rows in the Select Application window

Transferring “*.desktop” files from “/usr/share/applications/” to
“/usr/local/share/applications/”
solves the situation, but the question remains why, if there are “* .desktop”
files in
“/usr/share/applications/" duplication of lines occurs only for these files.
But in the “Thunar 1.8.9” file manager, line duplication does not occur with
“Open with”.

Replacing the line finally solved the problem:
   else
  XDG_DATA_DIRS="$XDG_DATA_DIRS:/usr/share"
on
   else
  XDG_DATA_DIRS="$ XDG_DATA_DIRS"

Now when executing the “env” command, I find the line:
   XDG_DATA_DIRS=/usr/share/xfce4:/usr/local/share/:/usr/share/

Problem Duplication of lines in the "Application Selection" window was resolved,
lines no longer duplicated under Doublecmd.

Changed normal code block in "/usr/bin/startxfce4" is:

   if test "x$XDG_DATA_DIRS" = "x"
   then
 if test "x/usr/share" = "x/usr/local/share" -o "x/usr/share" =
"x/usr/share"; then

Hi Sébastien,

this won't happen, Buster is a stable release with strict release policy, and
Xfce 4.14 release happened way after it was frozen.

The only thing possible is for someone to make backports and upload them to
the backports archive. At that point it's not planned, but it might happen
eventually.

XFCE 4.14 for Buster.

2019-08-28 Thread Sebastien CHAVAUX

Hello;

I am writing to ask if it is possible, to have version 4.14 of XFCE for
Buster. I do not know if it takes a lot of work, but I think it would be
nice to have this office in its latest version in our Stable.

If you do not have an advice and a method to do this work that I can do
it on my side and you send it then if you're interested?

Sincerely Seb.

Bonjour;

Bien cordialement Seb.

[team only]

I've prepared all the packages, which are ready for upload *locally on my
box*. I've not yet pushed all the commits and tags, because I'd prefer pushing
when uploading.

The status is tracked on an issue in the xfce4 repository on salsa:

https://salsa.debian.org/xfce-team/desktop/xfce4/issues/1

While we wait for the release team feedback, please refrain to touch anything
which is unchecked on the “upload stuff” task list.

I'd prefer uploading in the relevant order, but if the RT approval takes too
much time I might start uploading the non-transition stuff and we'll request
binNMUs later.

Thanks all for the work on the 4.13/4.14 packaging!

Regards,

Xfce 4.14 upload to unstable

2019-08-15 Thread Yves-Alexis Perez

Hi release team,

Xfce 4.14 was recently released. We started doing the packaging in
experimental for the 4.13 pre-releases, and now that Buster is out we would
like to proceed with the 4.14 upload to unstable.

As far as I can tell, there are two concerns for the release team:

- - xfconf has a soname bump, which is apparently already tracked (maybe through
experimental) at https://release.debian.org/transitions/html/auto-xfconf.html
which will require some binNMUs (although at least part of the packages will
see a sourceful upload anyway)
- - xfce4-panel require a rebuild of panel plugins built against libxfce4panel-
1.0 (in the xfce4-panel) because of the forced dependencies we manually add
(that should disappear with plugins built against libxfce4panel-2.0 which is
in a separate package).

We would like to request permission to start uploading 4.14 packages,
including the two above. Is that ok with you, and how can we help having a
smooth process for you?

Regards,
