RE: [Declude.JunkMail] declude 4 changes ... worried...

2006-02-10 Thread Che Vilnonis
I agree. I just emailed to see what the upgrade price would be for just
Junkmail... and I'm not sure that is even possible to purchase it alone.
Sounds like Declude has been following Ipswitch's model for bundling/pricing
software.

So I thought I'd go web browsing on the Declude site and see what is up with
Declude 4.
I'm a Virus Pro and Junkmail Pro licensee on Imail.

Going forward Declude 4 is the entire suite (Virus Pro, Junkmail Pro and
Hijaak).
Kevin's post mentions that Declude 3 will be supported. Although long term
how long will they support two different code sets?
I'd say my long-term gut feeling isn't good.

Next I look through the purchase page. Declude 4 for Imail is now only
available for a $1450 Annual Subscription. Ouch.
The last time I paid maintenance for Declude it was $265. That's a bump.

(Essentially having only one domain here), That is mighty pricey especially
compared to the Declude for Smartmail 1 domain price of $199.

Don't get me wrong, I really like the Declude prodcut. It's so flexible that
you can do many different things...
I just can't see how smaller entities like me are going to positively
affected by these changes.

It is not possible to purchase any of the 4.x components alone. They are
sold as one package. New sales will be the version 4 suite. If you currently
have the 3.x product you can stay with seperate components.

This is known as backscatter you can read about it here.

http://www.spamresource.com/2007/02/backscatter-what-is-it-how-do-i-stop-it.
html

If you go to the Declude My Account home page you will find a link to
download a zip file which contains 2 filters you can use against
backscatter. Download these and extract them to your \declude\filters folder
and then call the filters from your global.cfg to be aggressive score the
FILTER-NOSENDER with 10 or more points.

Don't know if Declude (or anyone) can help, but we are seeing

a L O T of bounce-backs that show that the SPAMMERS are

using valid  postmaster@    (that we
host) as their FROM address

and send the SPAM out thru Post Offices other than ours.

When the SPAM goes to a non-existant address, it bounces back

to the valid postmaster@ on my
Server.

We are getting 5,000 - 10,000 of these bounces per day..

Any suggestions?

Thanks very much

[Declude.JunkMail] Declude and Imail's Whitelist...

2004-06-04 Thread Che Vilnonis
Let me start by saying I am a Declude newbie. Here's my situation. I am
running Imail v8.11.

I whitelisted my wife's email address, [EMAIL PROTECTED] But, when
she sends me an email it is not whitelisted by Imail/Declude. It continues
to be processed and is not being whitelisted!

What can I do? What am I doing wrong?

Thanks Che

Hello again Scott. Actually, if a rule fails, I have the X-RBL-Warning
inserted in the header. In my rules.ima file, if X-RBL-Warning is found, an
email is moved into a folder called "NULL".
Maybe you can help me here. Basically I am using the default Declude config
files. Is there a site/resource where a can download a "mature" version of
the $default$.junkmail and the GLOBAL.CFG files?
Much like someone letting others have access to their rules.ima, kill.lst
and phrase-list.txt files?
That would be a great help to me!

No I added to Imail...I guess that is it.
So, what it is the pecking order here? Does Imail's anti-spam ever come into
play with Declude? Are the Kill list's looked at first? The phrase list
used? Rules.ima?
Where exactly does Declude take over?
Thanks Scott.

#3. IMail v8 anti-spam (most tests). Is this the anti-spam seeder file and

Also, how/what do you do to turn off Imail's V8 anti-spam completely? Just

We've seen more and more junk getting through on our servers. No doubt our
config files are not up to date.
I've downloaded the latest patch with the included config files.

My question: does everyone run them "stock" or are there particular
configs / settings / etc., that people are
implementing to make Declude even more effective than it is out of the box?

Is there anywhere to download people's various config's (ie. a page where
they are posted and shared) or could
someone either post what they think is key or make specific recommendations
as to what to tweak?

Thanks

[Declude.JunkMail] OT: Declude Config Files...anyone in the holiday giving mood?

2004-12-08 Thread Che Vilnonis
I hope I am posting this in the right place...

Hello all. I've asked this before and had no takers.
I'd like to see some real working examples of how Declude
users have set up their respective config files with weights,
rules, etc.

I'd like to tighten up my Declude settings, but unfortunately
I am not an experienced declude user/network admin like many
of you are. Can anyone help? Is this wrong of me to even ask for?

Thanks in advance!
~Che
