[Declude.JunkMail] CMDSPACE test
CMDSPACE test does not seem to be very discriminating. In my Declude logs it seems that 90% plus of arriving email fails this test including all email to this list and to the Sniffer list. Is this test of any use? Thank you, -- Michael Hoyt Communication Arts --- This E-mail came from the Declude.JunkMail mailing list. [Declude.JunkMail] OT: Adding a non-authoritative DNS A record and associated PTR record
Sorry for the off topic post but I know someone here will have a easy answer to this question. I currently host DNS records for our Active Directory domain on our domain controller (Win 2003 with local domain "COMMARTS.LAN") and want to create a local only NON-AUTHORITATIVE "A" and associated "PTR" record for image.commarts.com while the AUTHORITATIVE commarts.com DNS records are hosted by our ISP. I need to do this temporarily while we are developing the website and want the record to be available to my Active Directory members without having to mess with local hosts files. [Declude.JunkMail] Filter question
I am attempting to create a filter that contains conditions that will cause a HOLD on the emails that it matches. My HOLD weight is 100 but I also use some reverse weighting so I was thinking that adding 500 points should do it. In my global.cfg I have : BLACKFILTER filter D:\IMAIL\Declude\Filters\BlackFilter.txt x 500 0 In my $default$junkmail I have : BLACKFILTERWARN As 500 points is enough to HOLD the email I want the processing of this email to stop as soon as it matches something in this filter. If my BlackFilter.txt file is composed of lines like: SUBJECT STOPALLTESTS CONTAINS China Business Directory BODY STOPALLTESTS CONTAINS Evil Spammer will the test return 500 points on the first match and HOLD the email without further processing of filters or other tests. I understand the filters are processed in the order they are listed in the $default$junkmail so this will be the first Filter listed but there are FROMFILE's listed earlier in the $default$junkmail. If I put the filters earlier in the $default$junkmail than the FROMFILE's will they also trigger earlier? In this scenario will I need a SKIPIFWEIGHT line in any subsequent filters to suppress their running? Re: [Declude.JunkMail] OT: SPF record question

[Declude.JunkMail] OT: SPF record question
Sorry for the re-posting but I forgot to add a Subject. I am finally getting my SPF records up but would like some comments on whether I got it right. I would like to be able to send email from any IP address in my 216.15.92.0/25 network. Currently I have MX records for mail.commarts.com (216.15.92.3) which is the only mail server that receives mail and direct.commarts.com (216.15.92.15) and smtp.commarts.com (216.15.92.13). Using the Wizard at openspf.org I generated the following SPF records: commarts.com. IN TXT "v=spf1 ip4:216.15.92.0/25 a mx ~all" direct.commarts.com. IN TXT "v=spf1 a -all" mail.commarts.com. IN TXT "v=spf1 a -all" smtp.commarts.com. IN TXT "v=spf1 a -all" After reading page 15 of the Whitepaper pertaining to the ~all,-all or ?all part of the text in the first record my question is: If I know that ALL email from my domain will originate from 216.15.92.0/25 should the text be -all and not ~all? And my last question is are the three txt records mentioning my MX servers necessary if I have 216.15.92.0/25 in the first record? [Declude.JunkMail] Text of Changes @ Declude that was sent to on Tuesday.
"Dear Michael, Starting this month product and pricing is changing to reflect the structures used by SmarterMail and IMail. That is to say we are moving to a Domain/User based structure that more accurately reflects the usage by our customers. Other changes include: - Product format - A single product that contains the Pro versions of JunkMail and EVA and the Standard version of HiJack. - Pricing - We are moving from the current upfront charge with an annual service agreement to an annual subscription fee which includes software, support and updates to both virus signatures and Declude. This version of Declude will be released under Version 4.0. The first question that you are probably asking is, how does this affect me? We recognize your importance to our future and we will do everything within our means to avoid jeopardizing that relationship. To that end we have structured two options for you to consider: - You can upgrade at a special price to the PRO version of JunkMail and EVA and the Standard version of HiJack and continue to pay an annual Service Agreement. - You can remain with your current version and continue to pay the annual Service Agreement fee as you do today. Click here http://www.declude.com/myaccount.asp to see your host record and the special price. If you have any questions please call us (978) 499-2933 between 8am and 5pm Eastern Time, Monday through Friday. Best regards Barry Barry Simpson" As I am a JunkMail Standard user with a current service agreement I thought that this would be an inexpensive way to upgrade to JunkMail Pro and add on the Declude EVA product (though I do not have a real need for the Hijack product having only 30 users who all Authenticate and no email relay). The above email seems to suggest that I was upgrading to JunkMail Pro and EVA Pro for the "special price". I may have acted precipitously and am following this thread closely. I am also certain that if I did make a mistake in my assumptions that Declude will set me straight and make it right. [Declude.JunkMail] Whitelisting for one user
I have one user who uses a dial-up connection on weekends to e-mail through our e-mail server. I would like to be able to allow his e-mail to NOT be checked for spam when it is addressed to local recipients. I am currently running iMail version 7.15, Declude version 1.75 Standard(no current service agreement-sorry Scott), and up-to-date Sniffer with service agreement. All users Authenticate, no relay except for a couple of internal IP addresses. After looking through the archives I have determined that what I really want is the WHITELIST AUTH feature that requires an up-to-date Declude and iMail 8 or above. Because I am cheap (and because it all works OK as-is) my question is: If I use the WHITELIST feature in Declude's global.cfg file for this user, how easy would spammers find it to send to users in my domain as this user? My current work-around is a FROM FILE that takes a few points off of the Declude score for e-mail from this user. Re: [Declude.JunkMail] [OT] .local domains
Scott, Thanks for the additional info. When we first implemented MS Active Directory we used .local (because most documentation on Active Directory suggested .local as an example TLD). Changing Domain names in MS Active Directory is no trivial matter even in a small domain. If I could start from scratch again ".localhost" it would be. But for now ".lan" will have to do until it is allocated in the future. Again, thank you for the list of allowed TLD's. [Declude.JunkMail] [OT] .local domains
As I was lurking on this list I noticed a thread "Question about Exchange2Aliases" where .local was suggested as an example TLD. If you have Mac OS X boxes on your network and you want to have them as members of a Microsoft Active Directory Domain then you cannot use .local as this extension is used by some OS X service (Rendezvous discovery service I believe). The TLD ".lan" seems to work and also connotes a "local" area network. We use .lan for our local DNS services required for Active Directory. This allows us to manage our local DNS zone "commarts.lan" without affecting our internet DNS records (on our ISP's DNS servers). Also if anyone out there is attempting to join Mac OS X computers to a Microsoft Active Directory Domain then check out ADMitMac from www.thursby.com - it works well in our small office environment and is worth the $ if you do not have the time to figure out the ins and outs of Active Directory (which didn't work in the early releases of OS X but may work fine now). [Declude.JunkMail] MS SMTP "store and forward"
I would like to set up an SMTP mail "store and forward" server using Microsoft's SMTP server that can accept email for my domains in the event that my primary iMail server is temporarily down. I would also like to be able to send outbound email through this secondary server because we occasionally do an emailing to our customers and when this emailing occurs my iMail outbound queue fills and my iMail users can experience a performance hit using IMAP. I have MX records for the three domains (commarts.com, designinteract.com, and creativehotlist.com) that point to mail.commarts.com as the primary mail server and direct.commarts.com as secondary mail server (higher preference number) and have RDNS records for these two mail servers. The setup seems simple enough: Run MS SMTP on the IP address for my secondary email MX record and this should take care of the "store and forward" part (if my primary email server is unreachable the secondary will take the mail and should attempt delivery to the primary mail server for the number and timing of attempts configured in SMTP properties). I want to be able to send outbound mail through this secondary email server without running an open relay. So in short: 1) I want to be able to receive email addressed to my domains through my secondary server that is then passed on to my iMail primary server. 2) I want to specify an internal IP address that is allowed to send through the secondary mail server's SMTP service. 3) I want to make sure that no email not originating from the IP address specified in 2 above is relayed to any domains that are not one of my three domains. iMail server always accepts email with an internal destination-is this also true of MS SMTP? If no, how does one set up MS SMTP to accept mail to internal domains and deny relaying of mail from external to external domains.
