If your problem is sniffer eating your CPU, solution is to run sniffer in a persistent mode. Same happened to me a few weeks ago, and answer from Sniffer was that. I suggest to run it as a service. What it does, as far as I understand, is make sure the rulebase is not loaded everytime a message is scan, but instead every 10 minutes or any x time (variable you can configure in the sniffer configuration file). AVAFTERJM ON must be in the virus.cfg file (if it is used) and it does require the ON parameter. Placing it in your global.cfg is wrong. It needs to be in your virus.cfg. Prescan is a seperate feature that if it basically detects no attachments or harmful code it will skip scanning the message period. After doing this my server looks more normal...up and down instead of constant 100% then drop for a couple seconds then back to 100%..I will check the archives and monitor to see if I am screwing up here.. It goes in the virus.cfg file and the option is "AVAFTERJM ON". Is your CPU running at 100% due to high load of incoming mail? Anything else you can tell us what is going on?
