I installed libevince-dev and the links from Print View were broken. So the fix at the moment is to build against libatril-dev. Unfortunately Denemo's configure file doesn't give an option to force the build to use libatril, it will only use it if libevince is absent, so that has to be uninstalled before building. Richard

I may know more about this shortly as > > I'm > > about to upgrade to Debian stable... Well my upgrade to Debian stable has worked, and I have built Denemo from sources using the atril.patch and without installing the libevince-dev package, installing instead libatrilview-dev and libatrildocument-dev (I don't know if this last one was required, I didn't try without). The good(ish) news is that the following of links from the Print View back to the Denemo Display works, so re-positioning things like trill signs can be done via dragging in the Print View. My next experiment (after checking more things with this atril build) is to install from the Debian repository see if the tweaking fails and also see if the Icon appears in the Applications menu - in this respect I can mention that installing the evolution package failed to put an icon in the application menu, which is pretty extraordinary. Then I'll at last be able to test if the inability to tweak objects is due to libevince changes... Richard

Hello Richard - I was just wondering, do you think I should file a bug report on the Debian Bullseye Denemo package: denemo (2.5.0-1)? Thanks. Robert

I applied that attached patch to the sources using patch -p1 < atril.patch and as it doesn't provide a method of forcing use of libatril instead of libevince I uninstalled libevince-dev so that it would choose libatril-dev. However it seemed that just installing libatril-dev was not sufficient. I couldn't make any further progress because my distro is now too ancient, so I think I will have to upgrade before taking this further. This won't be possible this week unfortunately. If anyone can get this patch working meanwhile (I'm sure it just needs tweaking to allow --enable-atril) and can get a build using atril there is a reasonable chance that wysywig operations will be restored. (This is based on the fact that the MATE desktop seems to be an attempt to keep the interface that gnome had before they followed the rush towards gesture-based guis). A terminal when you are in a typical desktop environment is a window into which you can type commands - usually to be found in some "system tools" menu or some such, you must surely have been typing into one if you built denemo using the commands ./autogen.sh etc? If you run denemo from the terminal (if you are still in the directory where you built it then ./src/denemo would launch it, if you installed it then just typing denemo will launch it) then you will see a heap of messages and finally Denemo will start. Then when you click on a note head in the Print View with version 2.5.4 you will see a message saying what the URI that has been signalled was. It would seem however that the signal is not being sent, so nothing will be written to the terminal. Richard

Hi Richard - ---snip--- I've completed the build of 2.5.4. Unfortunately my results are the same as in my original post, i.e.: . nothing happens when I hover over an object (text or notes) . right-clicking on text or notes brings up the 3 option menu (Help for Tweaks, etc.) . left-clicking on text or dynamics does nothing . left-clicking on a note does nothing -- playback doesn't start and the main window does not come up and move to the note for playback Robert

Also, the Denemo Window doesn't get selected after left-clicking on the Print View). When I started Denemo after the update, I selected the option of using the old preferences and palettes. You can also try the nightly builds at http://www.denemo.org/~aschneider/daily/ (download *denemo*2.5.4*.deb) Andreas Hello Andreas - Thank you for reminding me about your .deb builds -- I have always used them with success. I tried your 2.5.4 build, but there are missing libraries that are no longer available for Debian Bullseye -- they are: guile-2.0-libs (guile-2.2-libs in Bullseye) libfluidsynth1 (libfluidsynth2 in Bullseye) libgc1c2(libgc1 in Bullseye) I hope you can update these libraries for installation on Bullseye. Thank you. Regards, Robert

This should then show the links when hovering over a note. The default pdf viewer on my system is "atril" and it does show the links, but if your viewer is "evince" and does not show the links then that would indicate the problem is with libevince. Coincidentally someone submitted a patch for linking Denemo to libatril recently which didn't get applied because there wasn't any guarantee that the program would work with that alternative library (and even if it did, just changing the names would be pointless). It may be opportune to look at this again. After all, there must be some reason that Debian has a libatril package... Richard > > > > Thanks. > > > > Robert > > > > > >

I can test in a few hours, but I'm not sure how to update from source. Should I simply repeat the steps here: http://www.denemo.org/hacking-sources/ 1. git clone git://git.savannah.gnu.org/denemo.git 2. follow the build instructions? I've put this into the repository and bumped the development version to 2.5.4 If either of you could by any chance rebuild from current master with this version, right click and read the response in the terminal that should show where the trouble lies. Thanks for this - could you post the lilypond file? (A file created with (d-New) (d-C) would be ideal). If I copy and paste the relevant bit of the LilyPond view I get this: MvmntIVoiceI = { c'4 \AutoEndMovementBarline } where you see 9 spaces appear before the note name c'4 One of these is actually a special character - an anchor - that appears in the LilyPond view as a gray square, the other 8 are inserted by Denemo at the start of each measure. This code is unconditional, so there should be no way(*) that the first note name in a bar could appear in column 0. (TAB characters are

Hello, I think I have the same problem in Denemo 2.5.3 installed from source using Lilypond 2.22. I'm using it on Lubuntu 20.04 running in VirtualBox on a Mac. If it helps, here's my results. 1) No output, but after adding any note in Denemo, the terminal shows 'Denemo - WARNING : Lilypond did not end successfully: Child process exited with code 1 Running lilypondLog level set to 287'. The Print View updates correctly. 2. Yes, the link appears. 3. Yes, I got a link. 4. In the Denemo print view my first note is at position 10, while when I open the Lilypond file the first note is at position 0, i.e. 21:9:10 in Denemo vs. 21:9:0 in the Lilypond file. Cheers, Lib

The symptoms you are describing indicate that working back from the note in the pdf to the Denemo Display is not working. 1) What is the output on the terminal when you try to click on a note in the Print View? 2) When you hover over a title does a link (starting Scheme: ...) appear? 3) When you hover over a note does a link (starting textedit:// ...) appear? (see attached) what version of LilyPond are you using? (In the Scheme window execute (d-InfoDialog (d-GetLilyVersion)) to get that. If the link appears in (3) above, open the file in /tmp that is specified in the link and look at the line and column number indicated to see if it is the right place (send the file and link text if you don't read LilyPond syntax at all). Right-click gives you a menu - if you are off any object it is the (Help for Tweaks, Red dots and crosses, Score size) menu whereas if you are on an object (hand pointer) it gives you the context sensitive menu for tweaking. Incidentally, if you have already clicked an object (blue square on the object) then left-clicking will give you the context sensitive menu, rather than just starting playing straight away, you can play from that menu anyway. > on the object when the hand pointer appears. > > Any suggestions? so, right not left click. Can not tweak objects in Debian's Version 2.5.0
Hello - OS: Linux; Debian Bullseye Denemo Version: 2.5.0 from the Debian repository In this version I am unable to tweak Textual Annotations, Dynamics, Rehearsal Numbers, etc. in the Print View window. A right-click gives me the context menu (Help for Tweaks, Red dots and crosses, Score size), but there are no prompts when I left-click on the object when the hand pointer appears. Any suggestions? Regards, Robert
